I will be travelling on the SQ12 flight from SIN-LAX arriving on Saturday 23 September at 1210.
My first destination of this trip will be Chicago, but due to time constraints I need to be there by mid-morning of the following day at the latest.
In terms of dealing with jetlag, should I take an afternoon flight from LA to arrive in Chicago at midnight, or should I take a redeye flight (in Y) at 11pm?
Bearing in mind the flight only lasts for four hours and I also save on a night's hotel and get ~ 10hrs in LA to do some sightseeing.
Any suggestions or help?

10 hrs in LA isn't really going to be enough time given that it will be the late afternoon evening rush time and LAX is quite a way from the major tourist things. Given the expense and difficulty in getting around I would personally get a Day room at the Crowne Plaza / Sheraton at the airport, get over your jet lag and get the overnight plane to Chicago.

IMHO

Id take the arvo flight straight to Chicago, arriving at midnight. as will be able to be in hotel and asleep by 1am, meaning you can get a good 7 hours sleep and still make any 9am meeting. Shouldn't have any jet lag as you are sleeping on correct local time.

Also LA is inferior to Chicago in terms of things to do in your free time.

Allow for your SQ flight to be a late arrival and LAX border entry delays. you may need up to 4 hours from wheels on the ground to make a connection. You wont have checked thru luggage etc so that will need to be collected and then checked in again
