Travelling soon from Melbourne to coughet, via Perth.

Have never travelled this route before and will be able to select seats today.

As Gold I normally go Row 3 (both Mr Mella and I are Gold)...just wondering if I should stick with that for all the sectors or is there another option I should be picking?

Thanks in advance

You're not on an a330 from Mel to per? Hard question I'd guess row is best on a 737, assuming they've all been refitted.

Isn't the plan for all MEL-PER and vv. to be ops by 330 if they are not all already?

As for PER-HKT, good luck with that one. Long time to be stuck in a 737

All direct flights MEL-PER and v.v. are on A330's and have been for some time now. No row 3 in Y! Starts at about row 5 or 6, from memory.

It started at row 10 for Y from Mel to Per so I got allocated the usual first row and have 10A and 10C...on Per to Hkt, it gave me 3A and 3C which looks like will be an a very uncomfortable flight!

Well I think you have the best seat in economy on both planes. Yes is will be uncomfortable, but you will be better off then everyone else who has less legroom and space ;)

As Goild status pax I would try and engage friendly conversation with the Y cabin cabin crew as soon as possible, i.e. by being the first to board through priority boarding. You may need to call in favours later in the flight (blanket, food etc).

For example, if you wish to purchase beer and/or pre-mixed spirits order as many as you can very quickly on the first trolley run (you should be served first if in row 3. The reason for this is that the remaining alcohol will be snapped up very, very quickly by the bogans behind you starting their holidays in 'style'.

The same goes for food - even if you are not hungry it may pay to buy things for the whole flight on the first run because it's unlikely to be available on the second run (for hot food you may wish to start calling in those favours from the crew to see if they can save you anything).

I've done the reverse of this flight (HKT-PER) and I can safely say it was by far the worst DJ/VA flight I've ever done (and I've done over 100).

Concentrate on the destination, bring some entertainment (book/ipad) and zone out.

Me too, I used pts up to J HKT-PER overnight.Great service, but no footrest in 737 J... or Y for that matter, made me really uncomfortable in J seats.
Mentioned to the CS supervisor, service was great, pleasant, but uncomfortable, she suggested i write to Virgin. I did and Virgin gave a $300 credit to my next flights. Not a nasty letter, just suggestion on how to improve for such a long J flight on 737 800. Overnight. If you go in Y - bring yr own blanket, travel pillow. etc
The TG int'l lounge in HKT is really ordinary as a GOLD on yr RTN. Note also carry on DF alcohol to PER restricted to 100ml - Yes, i kid you not on this one, cheers, PJ

Thanks for all the tips everyone...greatly appreciated!
Initially I had booked a Flexi in the hope I could use points to upgrade to J. When I kept ringing and checking expert flyer there was no availability, so I cancelled the Flexi, rebooked at a cheaper rate and just decided to make do.
It can't possibly worse than Air Asia or MH in Y, so a couple of pills and i'll be fine :)

I much rather 6.5 hours in MH Y (34 inches in a 777) is much better than said time in a 737

noooooooooooo don't tell me that!!!! I did 13 hours in MH Y and it was pure torture!
