Hi all,

Does anyone know why classic awards are cheaper on AA than BA? DFW - LHR is 30K points on AA and 35K points on BA. There are lots of examples of this.

Are the taxes and surcharges also lower or have you not gotten that far...

Have to say I would prefer to fly BA than AA as well... A recent flight on an AA 767 from Rio to Miami and the AA flight still had those stupid tv's on the roof while the 777 BA flight from Chicago to LHR was reasonably enjoyable... Love how they serve their alcohol in those little mini bottles still as well, collected 8 different ones on all the BA flights i took... :)

Though DFW-LHR on AA is a 777.Certainly in J I would rather fly AA on a 777.

Having never flown AA or BA in Y. Always F or J I can't say what it is like in that cabin. I can tell you that I much prefer BA hospitality over AA in the premium cabins though. The smile seems less painted on for a start. Service is more attentive. But again this is J/F not Y.

Long-haul AA Y is not a fun experience - particularly if you're in the center (all pun intended) E seat of a 772. Service is cr*p, IFE is cr*p, food is cr*p and the seats of cr*p - miles behind BA / QF. I think the difference should be more than 5K!

Now, having said all that - I flew JFK - LHR - JFK in Y twice last year on points, once BA and once AA. The point price was the same for both flights (50K + about US$150 in taxes/fines).

A QFF Award on AA, is a QANTAS Classic Award.
A QFF Award on BA, is a Partner Classic Award.

Partner Classic Awards are always more expensive than QANTAS Classic Awards. Same reason why flying to any European city is often cheaper (in QFF points) via the USA, rather than via Heathrow on BA.
