Hi,

Do you guys transfer to QFF because of the earn rates or burn rates? Or because of the ability to book ASA's?
...
I would never transfer to QFF solely due to Earn/Burn rates - it's very poor value on award redemptions - Upgrades are what kept me in.

However, with the advent of eligible earn with xASA's I am no longer looking for upgrades - my aim is to book premium cabins in the first place.

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

Hi Serfty,

Do you mean the unconfirmed upgrades on QF? What is your success rate so far? :)

The reason I don't really like QF's upgrade system is that it is not confirmed until closer to the flight.... But that is just me...

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

Since the advent of Altea, my international upgrade success rate had dropped from around 95% to about 50% - so I no longer look to upgrade.

I simply book JASA's in the first place ... it seems far better value for me.

I am with you on this Serfty....sometimes if the JASA/FASA is just too much I will take a Classic in J or First.

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

I wish I still had the choice to transfer to QFF with both Amex cards.

In my opinion the Qantas Oneworld award is hard to beat for value.

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

I transfer mine for ASAs, not for upgrades. I need ASAs more than I need another toaster or David Jones voucher.

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

Yes the CC points are pretty worthless with my several hundred thousand points on CBA Everyday Rewards worth about $800 in vouchers but way more in ASA potentially.

Re: Replacement for platinum charge card?

Sounds like ASA's are peoples favourites :) Wish more airlines do this :)

I'm with JohnK on this. Have never yet redeemed one but the 280K J RTW award is on my wish list.
I book JASA's and do some J-F upgrades with my points at present.
No toasters or vouchers

Agree the deal has changed to ASA's and locking in a premium cabin and eliminating the risk of bad seating.

Cabin upgrades are my next option which I have had good success with.

Toasters? Just buy one!

My sentiments exactly, and not with the DJs voucher either :p

I think toasters represent excellent value, as do DJ vouchers, I always use my points for items from the Qantas shop.*

*This is a complete and utter lie, driven by the desire to encourage other people away from the much coveted, and excellent value, ASA

When I transfer to Qantas it is solely for xASAs as well. But does anyone else think that the dollar component is creeping up when using the minimum points?

Or the points component? Quoted 55,000 points for a JASA to Brisbane the other day! Or 10,000 points plus $180 for YASA! Thanks, but no thanks - I'll red-e-deal.

Pitty they don't have pancake machines in the catalogue.

With the taxes and surcharges Qantas charge for redemptions these days it's strictly JASA's for me now (until they cancel or shift the SYD-CGK route to J* anyway, then it's time to start dusting off the Krisflyer card methinks).

In my opinion the Qantas Oneworld award is hard to beat for value.

Ive used for oneworld Award several times with an upcoming one in J for 280k points which works out as great value.
