Why is it so hard to get things done right?

A couple of days ago I had to do some major changes to a booking through the QF call centre and I told them I wanted all the fares booked as Saver fares - just took a look at it all and discovered that they have booked Saver for the outbound legs and Sale for the return legs - there goes the points upgrade and some SC's - its not meant to be this hard surely!! Is there a sure-fire way of getting through to the Hobart call centre instead of the Philippines one?

And the double disaster is it’s more likely the return leg is the one that will change and the ‘non-refundable’ nature of Sale fares means “the bank always wins”.

And then they can apply the most restrictive fare conditions to both legs ?!?

Ideally one would book it the other way

Had a friend of a friend who’s TA did it that way for 4 PAX and then 3 of them never flew the return leg thus blowing thousands of dollars pocketed by the airline (& TA)

Yep all around damn annoying - will give QF a call tomorrow in my not happy voice!

on QFI usually the fare rules say they are applicable to that leg only, which is unusual but nice. So no, it's not normally most restrictive (but on other carriers it is).

I think the only way to avoid cough like this with QF nowadays is use an agent.

I think its time all of us on here started a campaign to get Qantas to bring all their call centres back to Australia - Telstra managed it so I don't see why Qantas can't!

I thought that had already been announced ?

These days...

For cancellation/refund, it's generally the most restrictive condition of all fare components that applies, across all carriers.

For changes, it's generally charge the highest of the change fees of all fare components that are being changed. Eg. If you were changing a fare that has both saver and flex fare components, the saver change fee will apply.

On the phone to the QF call centre about it...

It seems as though they are having trouble sorting it out - and I haven't yet asked them about what the fare price was on Wednesday when I booked it...

Well much to my surprise, the consultant from the Fiji call centre that I just spoke to was able to sort it all out - looking at the booking in my QF account I can see that it has now been fixed up - and I have no idea how but getting the return leg changed from Sale to Saver made the fare $89 cheaper and that is getting refunded to my credit card!

I guess it shows that sometimes it is possible to get a win with Qantas!
