QANTAS admitted this week it was aware of concerns about the controversial refuelling system at Adelaide Airport's new terminal two months before October's official opening.
The revelation came amid claims the delayed opening was likely to continue during showcase international events this summer, including the Tour Down Under and one-day cricket matches in the VB series.
Earliest estimates by oil companies and airlines on Friday shifted the opening date back another two weeks to January 27 – and with still no guarantee of an opening.
Qantas said its initial concerns about fuel systems were dismissed by Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL), which operates the airport. "We became aware of rumoured problems with the fuel hydrant system in August," Qantas executive general manager of airports Grant Fenn said.
