will I earn QANTAS status credits flying BA or Cathay Pacific business class

Hi I am a newbie on the forum and have 2 potential business trips coming up. One which I would prefer to take with BA to Singapore as I don't want to fly on an A30 with QANTAS (and BA is cheaper - even with codeshare than QANTAS for a seat!) and due to committments that day I want to take as late as possible a flight out of Sydney.

The second trip I would like to go to Kuala Lumpur on Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong. It would be ADL-Hong Kong-Kul return. Would I then get status credits for the 4 legs (they all have different flight numbers).

From searching the forum it looks like I should be able to get status credits. Are there any business/first class tickets on either BA or Cathay Pacific which you don't get QFF points on? If so, what class ... ?

You will get status credit on all J and F flights with Cathay and BA as they are both part of oneworld.

As long as you provide your QFF number

Yes you will get full J status credits. Not sure when you are planning these trips, but Malaysia Airlines is poised to join Oneworld in the second half of 2012, so you might be able to fly direct instead of via Hong Kong.

In saying so, you get status credits per sector and if you stay in this forum for long enough you will take the most indirect route to your destination just to score those precious status credits

I managed to be QF gold for years by flying CX and AY in a J seat with the occasional QF flight.

You only wouldn't earn SCs on award flights.

Note though that depending on your qantas status you wil learn a lot less points flying CX rather than BA as you do not get the status bonus.

I thought the status bonus on BA/AA was ending soon anyway?

Or is it just that the bonuses remain at the old levels and don’t follow the increases on QF flights to 50/75%?

The WP bonus rate hasn't changed...

The changes to the gold and silver status bonus rates in May only affected travel on Qantas and Jetstar flights. The status bonus on BA and AA flights remained the same.

Why fly direct when you can connect

I've now even got my wife saying this expression when she sees me making bookings. No longer does she query why we don't fly direct but rather transit via a nearby FLounge port (and usually for exactly the same $$).

And speaking of FLounges ... I've also created a monster with her on that front. Now I get the question from her, "will we get to use the f lounge?". If my answer is NO, then I'm asked to look for flights so we can get some lounge time.
