Maybe this sounds like a stupid question - but the answer is not easy to find on the Virgin Australia or Velocity websites. First off when I book a reward flight, I can choose between 'Reward Seat' and 'Any Seat Reward' which I presume is the same as Qantas 'Classic' and 'ASA'. The thing is - neither shows the actual booking class. So when you go to the status credits earn page which lists all the eligible classes, how are you supposed to check?

I'm hoping you all can help.

I can answer the first half of the question. Normally reward seats do not earn anything, but Virgin are running a promo on Reward seats at he moment. That is only valid until the end of the month, though (30-Jun). Details here: http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/c...n-reward-seats-terms-and-conditions/index.htm

Normally reward seats earn nada and upgrades earn at the rate they were initially booked. I'm guessing you've probably already gleaned that... The fare class is stealthily concealed as the "Fare Basis", which is not shown until towards the end of the booking process (ie. just before you part with cash and/or points). Thankfully you can go through the whole process with a dummy booking and pull out (close the window) at the payment details page. The fare class is the first letter of the "Fare Basis".

I cannot answer the JASA question though as I've only ever booked classic reward seats.

VA do not have a *ASA equivalent. The 'Any Seat' is just an option to burn obscene amounts of points. No points or SC's are earned on the Any Seat Reward fares post June 30.

As totd mentions, SC's are being earned on award bookings thru end of June (and we're all hoping for an extension on that ;)).

Conceptually, the a Velocity and Qantas FF *ASA are the same thing, it's just that Velocity Any Seat Awards are restricted to commercial fares. The second part about no SCs being earned on Any Seat Rewards is not true. On Velocity, Any Seat Awards have been eligible for points and SC since January 13.

Hmm, I thought Any Seat awards earned SC although I've never tried it. Are SC's earned on Points + Pay bookings?

9.6.5 Effective for travel taken on or after 13 January 2013, Points may be earned for eligible Any Seat bookings.

You're very much so right. Thanks for correcting for me (didn't realise they'd snuck that one in).

With the usually exorbitant number of points required though, it's not particularly wonderful value like JASA's though unfortunately.

Yes, the points required are quite high, and so I am not likely to be taking up their offer any time soon!

Do you mean Any Seat Points + Pay, because points + pay gets you nada on Award seats (Current promo not withstanding), no matter how much cash you fork out.

Just for fun though, I've gone through the process and done a dummy booking for an "Any Seat" Economy Saver fare and the fare basis is showing as QZDA - Q being the most common Discount Economy fare bucket. That *should* be, to Sabre, indistinguishable from a regular cash booking. As always YMMV. I do vaguely remember reading posts from people that have had it work (ie. SCs have posted as expected) and others that have had no love from Velocity. Don't quote me, but I think the problem with non-crediting flights came down to some Any Seat bookings ending up ticketing as a reward fare bucket such as Z.

Points + pay bookings earn as per the same rules as the fare purchased . so if it was a Q class , it would earned based on Q fare . For domestic, the points earned are based on the fare ( actually fare level before converted to points)

I understand that it is not a limited duration promo ( like reward seats) but a " enhancement"

Anyseat ( or points + pay) bookings do not get booked in X P Z ( redemption class)
