Will I get Cadbury's into the USA?

I'd like to take a couple of sealed boxes of Cadbury's chocolates into the US for relatives in my checked through baggage. Will they let me keep them? Will I get asked if I am carrying food and then have to say yes and waste a lot of time getting searched so it would not be worthwhile?

I know it's a silly little thing but I'd love to take them.

At MIA 6 days ago we ticked having food and no one asked us what it was or bothered to look-just went straight through after handing in form.In fact only once can i remember being asked what we had and that was aty JFK.It turned out the agent had lived in Australia-he said he would only confiscate Tim tams so we told him we wouldnt tell him we had them.

Indeed, AQIS is not that concerned with taking chocolates in to Oz either; declare them; they may or may not check them; generally you be permitted to bring them in.

On a more serious note (sorry!) it is our over-the-counter availability of decent analgesics that has attracted some interest...

With ANY dosage of codeine apparently requiring a script in the USA it is hardly surprising that folks over there with similar needs to mine are somewhat jealous that I can just walk in to a "Drugstore" and buy panadeine/mersyndol etc...

A dear friend of ours from Virginia who spent some time here in Oz would "kill" for Aspro Clear. We send "care packages" with Aspro Clear, Tim Tams and some sort of Nut Loaf regularly.

To drag the thread back to chocolate, in the early days of the ban on liquids, aerosols and gels, I was travelling through Nadi with Easter eggs for my kids. As I went through security I was told that I would have to surrender the eggs. When I pointed out that chocolate was a solid, I was told - in all seriousness - "Yes, but it could melt." I was sure the officer was joking, but apparently not. I had to go back to check-in and tag my little bag of Easter eggs through to my destination. Turns out I wasn't the only one...

So now I am happily enjoying some chocolate covered potato chips amongst other delicious products.

I always take lots of the multi packs of Caramello Koalas to the US (and to Japan).
They're always well received.

Mr Driver received a Cadbury's Father's Day show bag today - I managed to wrestle the grandkids and Mr Driver to the ground and drag away at least half the contents and locked them in the suitcase! Of course by the time I got back (all of one nano second - I like Cadbury's too of course), the rest was demolished.

I know everyone has their favourite chocolate but I'm sure our good old Cadbury's will wow the US relatives - I reckon US chocolate is a lot like our cooking chocolate. except of course, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - with them, I don't share :evil:

I think UK Cadbury's is even better still. Less stabilisers in it as the weather is colder.

I know of at least one of the big manufacturers did some work to make a chocolate that did not melt so readily in the warmer areas of Australia. While they achieved that, it apparently did not taste so good.

I'm a pain about eating and try to eat minimally and really healthily - if I'm going to splurge on chocolate it really has to be good old Cadbury's - and really just the plain unadulterated kind - when I first came to Australia as a 14 year old I quickly became addicted and have never since failed to support the company! Years ago we went to the factory in Tasmania and then ate chocolate for about 4 months. I hear there is just a video now (and the cost is about $40 per adult) and then you 'get to' go to the seconds shop. Doesn't seem to sound quite as appealing as watching and smelling all that wonderful liquid chocolate swirling around and then being poured to make millions of people happy :!:
