I know there are lots of people who think they can read loadings of flights to predict upgrade chances, so for a bit of fun, I thought I'd test it out your skill!

Do you think I'll get upgraded? Here's what you need to know...

- Domestic flight
- 737 aircraft
- J2 D0 I0 Y1 B0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0
- I'm WP
- Travelling on a red edeal

Good luck!

And of course I'll let you know the outcome!

I haven't voted. Insufficient data to make a prediction.

What is the route? What day and time of the week? What is your allocated seat if within 24 hours of the flight? How many Chairman's Lounge or Platinums with higher booking class on the flight? Who do you know at Qantas? ;)

I'll guess "no" just to get the poll started. I think the aircraft will be full, thus no upgrades available

I've guessed 'no' - sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but like everyone else said, the flight looks full as it is. This is without ODUs considered (but given the loadings are so tight, I'm guessing that the U inventory is also nil).

Had you given away the sector, time/flight number and your flying history, we'd probably have a much better guess, but I guess you're withholding those for "game" value. :-| :)

I also say no, for the reasons specified above - but do hope you do :)

I'm currently playing a similar waiting game ... which flight will I be on tonight. Long story (and only one person here know's it) - will find out in 15 mins.

-- Well I won my battle. Let's just say I am flying in the same class, but got upgraded :) Good luck with yours.

Correct!
Given the following:

There's no way I can make a reasonable assessment without the additional information I asked for.
How Soon? What route, day and time of the week?

I voted No based on my own experience recently when I entered the Qantas Lounge in Melbourne and asked if there were any business seats available. "yes there is"

Can i use points to upgrade a "discount fare"? "Sorry,no"

On take off 3 business seats were empty and I thought that Qantas had lost an opportuinity to burn some of my points for no effort.

MAX_1, the only fare that you can't upgrade from, using an On Departure Upgrade, is a Red eDeal so that must have been the reason why they advised you thus (or they were too busy, or couldn't be bothered doing all the keystrokes to change the booking and deduct from your QFF account).

Back on topic, so when is the flight odoherty. Really, this isn't a test of skill, as it's a 50% chance either way. Having a lower percentage would be more skill and less luck involved.

I guess Yes!

I've had a good year domestically - maybe about 15 on departure upgrades. Always on Red-E-Deals always booked off peak looking for the cheapest fare. Never look at loadings when booking.

So based on my experience, good chance.

Well the majority of you may be pleased to know you were correct.

Unfortunately, no upgrade (on my BNE-SYD early morning flight)

So far I have not been one of the lucky few to receive a red edeal upgrade(s), even on flights that seem quite busy... we can't all be as lucky as htchapman!

Golden triangle - peak time! I would have indicated No if I had that info.

Fare bucket loadings aren't a good guide in these cases as Qantas don't see the four 73H BNE-SYD flights this morning between 6:00am and 8:45am as individual flights - they treat them as 672 seats.

They will chop and change PAX around on a real time basis for best fit.

I did receive a red e-deal op-upgrade one Saturday morning this February on the way to the FT Qantas Board AGM - standard beep at the gate followed by a BP for 2A.

You are not quite correct there... there is a cost to QF in you riding up front...

My making no ODU from Red e deals they add value to the higher fare class.. plus an emptier J cabin is of value to the higher paying clients...

I was starting to get very uncertain as to which flight you were testing us on when I saw that the poll was not due to expire until late evening on 15/08.

In any case, you had a tough one to score an op-up on anyway.

I had four op-ups this year but none of the flights were in the golden triangle. If I had a golden triangle peak hour flight my chances of getting an op-up with a Red e-deal are probably close to zero as well.

I only received my first op-up of the year last week and that was due to an earlier flight being cancelled close to the departure of my flight. That was an O class red e-deal. No easy op-ups for this Platinum either....
