Hi Folks,

Flying SYD-BME-SYD in a few weeks with Qantas, couldn't upgrade initially with points into J class but was thinking about trying at the Qantas Lounge. Haven't travelled on a 737-800 for a while, wondered whether it's worth the points to try and upgrade or if an exit row seat in Y is almost just as good? There's no individual entertainment systems in J on this route is there?

Thanks!

It would certainly make for a more comfortable flight in J, but correct; no personal IFE. An exit row if you can get it, or row 4 is quite good otherwise.

Thanks Flashware.

Also does anyone happen to know if you can upgrade on the day of travel out of BME using points, me thinks it's only possible to do that out of a Qantas club, and last I checked there wasn't one at BME.

Thanks!

There is a Qantas Lounge (Kimberley Lounge IIRC), and when I was last in BME I upgraded when checking in for my flight at the counter using points.

you'll get more leg room in an Xit row seat!

personally i dont see the value in Domestic J class travel - other than to collect status points.

Id be asking to be put in an Xit row at check in before thinking of wasting points on a Domestic upgrade

I definitely think its worth the points on a flight like that on an 800 series.

I totally disagree that exit row is an equal substitute, sure you have the legroom but youve also got someone else to share the armrest with and a much more narrow chair to endure the flight in.

Aside from J, i'd go for row 4 over exit any day of the week, just as comfortable and more likely to have the B/E free whereas on exit they are obliged to fill it.

Not sure about a better class of people, but certainly a more civilised way to fly.
