With the Boeing 787 Dreamliner finally in service, I expect there will be a few people here who are interested in flying it. And I also expect there are also a few people who'll wait until it's flown for several years before they want to step on board.
But if you're in the first group, how far out of your way would you go to get a flight?
I'll be in the US in June, and by then JAL should have started their BOS-NRT service with the 787. I haven't booked my flight home yet, so I could make it BOS-NRT (787), NRT-SYD (777), plus a domestic SYD-MEL. The economy airfare seems reasonable for a one-way flight back from the US, although the flight time is longer than a single direct flight, of course. And I'd also need to travel from the US west coast to BOS, although that's not a hassle. But I'd get to fly the 787!
Would you do something like this to fly the 787? Are you planning your own first flight? (Or are you happy to let others be the guinea pigs?)
