greetings,

have flights booked in Club Europe and Euro Traveller on BA. Club Europe I can select from the front seats of the Business cabin (unlike QANTAS before T80), but in Euro Traveller I'm locked out from rows 1-12 of economy. Is this standard? If so, when do the first 12 rows open up? I'm on the 767 and want a bulkhead seat.

The flight was booked through British Airways, not QANTAS, but they have my QFF number

Are you doing seat selection on BA website?? Try doing that.....just plug in name and record locator.

Yep I am - booking is appearing in QANTAS but seat selection unavailable through qantas.com, but selecting through britishairways.com only achieves the row 12 result.

Never had that happen before  Can always select from anywhere. Give them a call.
I hope this isn't the latest "enhancement"

Which destination is the Y only flight?

Have had this experience intermittently with BA seat selection over recent months. But have also found that trying again a day or two later has resulted in a straight forward selection process. Never did crack the code as to why or wherefore. When the selections have been made, they have "stuck", so all was well - eventually. :)

the flight is from Frankfurt to London on the 767. Thanks for your advice - it's actually row 19 as well, not 12, I was mistaken. Not sure if it has anything to do with the status of my fellow passengers or what (Gold, Gold, Silver) but I would have thought all being on my booking would have achieved a better result. Will check again presently or, failing that, give them a bell.

Interesting, never had that on BA before, just had a look and can only select from row 16 FRA LHR on 767 as WP

Considering there is no difference in seats between business and economy on these flights it is quite possible that BA is holding back the forward economy seats to expand the J section if demand increases. Then later on they will readjust the balance to match demand.

Well I gave them a buzz and the lady said 'but you are oneworld Emerald', and I told her I was Sapphire, and she said that because of the Gold passengers on the booking, even though I made it and am on the ticket, I'm locked out of selecting that. She recommended row 26 for extra leg room, but does it have extra room?

Also, aren't the front seats in Y more spacious if they can expand Club Europe backwards? As in, better pitch?

I'll just upgrade, no plans to get off from a PE flight and hop into the back of a stinky old BA 767 - the Club Europe service is embarrassing enough!

Is it worth the upgrade really? Aren't the seats the same with just a touch more room.

There is no difference in seat or pitch. All their Europe config 767's and narrow body a/c can be configured with all J if they like. Been an an A321 where J went to the middle exit door and a 767 that had 10 rows of J behind the 2nd door with me as the only pax in that section. All the other J pax were crammed up front.

I just had a look at my booking (BA911, FRA-LHR, in Y but on an A319) and I can choose out of the entire cabin up to row 4.

I've been able to select exit row seats on 3 of my flights (SIN-LHR, LHR-FRA, FRA-LHR) all for no charge as well! :D

On reflection, my comments at #6 above, referred to seat selection for BA flights, using the QF page, rather than the BA page.
Apologies if I have added confusion.

Seats are 2-2-2 in CE (with the centre wind-out arm rest), better status credit earn for about 60 Euros extra - plus always nice to have champagne and glassware in the air, particularly mid-morning. British Airways, in my mind, is so uniformly bad compared to QANTAS that CE is only the equivalent of normal Y - to me ET is the pits.

So yeah, it's worth it to me.
