Hi Everyone,

After going WP this week I've booked a quick day trip this Friday SYD to MEL return, I was looking forward to book in row 23 24 on the way down and row 4 or 5 on the way back. i got row 24 on the way down :D

I'm flying back on QF450 this Friday night and everything in front of row 8 is showing on expert flyer as blocked????? i thought WP enabled all rows behind J, or did I miss read something.

I've booked 8D, but would like to grab one of the blocked aisle seats in 4 ;)

Any tips - love to here them.

Cheers
Andrew

Best guess would be that a bunch of WPs and perhaps even CLs have already selected seats in thise rows.

Hi Katie,

Looking at Qantas.com seats available map I'd agree, however on expert flyer it shows them clearly as blocked not occupied. I guess a friday night MEL to SYD would have a high % of WP and CL's

I have noticed some weird things for seat selection on domestic 737s. I would recommend checking again 24 hours before the flight leaves. It is possible the seats have been already allocated to other passengers (and their shadows) who got in early.

But I believe that Qantas also keeps some (maybe 1 or 2) seats in reserve for last minute bookings by VIPs and CLs. I also believe that row 6 is often kept asiide for wheelchair passengers and some times frees up closer to departure if there are none of these passengers.

I only get 4 or 5 a few days out at best - generally I get 6C when I select seats at booking.

Row 6 is the best you'll get on a 737 prior to T-80h as a WP.

Checking at T-80h is always advisable but don't expect it to instantly open up for row 4 & 5 selection then. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. Just keep checking.

... Just keep checking.
Good Advice.

On the day of the flight, many of those forward have flexi bookings and may move seats/flights - never give up, even after checking in.

Once. I was down in row 8 or something &was in the J Dom lounge 45 minutes before the flight. I had another look and a row 4 aisle seat had opened up. I grabbed it and went to the service desk to get a new BP printed.
