Wrecking Ball Tour of the Barossa

Cheaper than last year!!

It’s April so that must mean another Barossa Tour is in the wings. And you’d be right for +1 and I have again organized a visit to ROCKFORD, plus lunch and another tasting.

Our day starts at 08:30am when we board our coach and head off through the northern parts of Adelaide to Rockford Wines where hopefully somebody will unlock the gate for us around 10:00am and let us in. For those of you who haven’t been on one of these tours before, we are quite fortunate in that Rockford open just for us, the public not being allowed in until 11:00am.

Like last year, we have once again been invited into the barrel room for a private tasting and discussion about Rockford. Be armed with any questions you may have for our host. For those of you who are not Stonewall members, this tour will provide you with an opportunity to not only taste premium wine that is not usually available to the public, but hopefully there will also be some available for purchase on the day.

Concluding at around 12:30, we rejoin the coach for a short drive to a mystery destination for lunch. Nothing like a few glasses of Rockford to bring on a hearty appetite! Following lunch which should take an hour or so, we depart for our next destination, KALLESKE for yet more wine tasting in their lovely garden. For those wanting something a bit different or if time allows after Kalleske, GREENOCK BREWERS is just across the road.

Please be aware however, that visiting the boutique brewery is not part of this tour and it will be your responsibility to return to the coach on time else you might find yourself stranded in Greenock!

At 3:30pm we need to return to the coach where our driver will have the engine primed and running ready for our return to Adelaide. Our first stop will be at the airport by 5:30pm where we say goodbye to those leaving the tour there. Our second stop will be at the Hilton and our third stop at roughly where we started the day.

Our day needs to begin early so that we arrive at each location on schedule.

Any delay will result in us missing out on something, somewhere, so please arrive on time.

The cost of the tour is $115.00 per head and includes the following:

Return coach trip (Adelaide Barossa Adelaide)
Tasting fees
Lunch

The cost does not include:

Wine or other beverages with lunch
Any fees charged by TRYBOOKING

The tour is strictly limited to 25 on a first come, first served basis with a wait list should a place become available. Tickets available HERE

Please be aware that if you purchase a ticket it is non refundable unless another person wants your spot, in which case the waiting list comes into play.

A Saturday night get together is also being organized, a link will be put on this thread to a separate thread that will be started shortly.

You do not need to attend the wine tour to come along to the Saturday night event. These are separate events.

PRIZES PRIZES PRIZES!!!

There are some generous people here on AFF and Matt_01 is certainly one of those people.

Even though he is not coming on the tour, Matt has donated some prizes for me to give away.

I always keep an eye on Free to a Good Home and if I’m quick enough I might even snag some more stuff from other AFFers. Other than the stuff from Matt, there are 7 Ah-So’s to give away (valued at $9.95ea) plus around a dozen bottles of wine. Everybody attending will also receive a small gift from Ruby and I.

I ended up booking an afternoon flight to ADL on JQ782 (before you chastise me, it actually cost $1 more to take a Jetstar flight, Max bundle, front row seat and presumably free snack on board than the similarly timed QF flight in Y-). I'm flying home on QF656, and staying at the new HIX.

Just booked and paid for this tour. Am sure it will be up to the high standard of the McLaren Vale tour I attended some time ago.
Now the key question is how many nights do I stay, and do I stay at the Hilton or elsewhere. Hilton is averaging out at $190 a night on advance purchase.

Well, thank goodness I'm out of the country then ... else I couldn't resist!

I've got some of penegal's wines at my place - I suppose I could offer those up as prizes?
