When booking say PER to LAX in Y+, the domestic sector is in Y between PER and SYD. Does anyone know what fare class this falls into in terms of SC earn and for upgrades for the domestic sector in Y?

Usually?

Would the same apply if its done as a multi-city booking. Ie, aiming to turn up to Sydney the evening before rather than taking a red-eye.

If you login qantas.com and do a mock booking and proceed all the way to the payment page this should create a PNR that you can access through your account. This way you should see the fare class. (This worked with Flex Y booking).

Was not aware of this trick! Incredibly useful. Thank you :)

W international fares book into H on AU domestics these days. It used to be B but hasn't been the case for 1-2 years now.

I booked Y+ for the international and domestic sectors booked into B for domestic. So still happens. Points upgrade to J already confirmed for domestic.

Which international route? There may be some which are still following the old rules.

PER to JNB via SYD. Actually flying into PLZ and out of CPT with the domestic sectors in SA booking into Y bucket on BA.

South Africa fares allow either B or H still, correct. Most other routes are H only now though.

PER-JNB via SYD when you could fly PER-JNB direct in less than half the time.

Convenient!

Given they're both flexi Y and earn the same rate/same points to upgrade to J, is there any real impact for a traveller?

Sure, if the only consideration is flight time, one might do that.
