Hi All,

Just wondering if Y-up fares still exist in the US? I've been searching for info on line but all the info seems 4+ years old and the Fare Compare website dosen't seem to have the Y-up search filter anymore...?

I'm a huge n00b to all of this so the fact I even know the term 'Y-up' is pure luck and thanks to a friend :)

I was hoping to travel with Virgin affiliates but will do qantas if need be.

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

Yes, they're still available, but with the demise of the FareCompare YUPP search, they're just a bit harder to find.

I'm doing research for a trip in May/June, and I've found YUPP (or other instant-upgrade-first-class) fares on both Delta (for Virgin earn) and AA (for QF earn).

My suggestion is to search with Matrix - ITA Software, selecting "Business class or higher" for the cabin option. YUPP fares are included with the results, and show travel in first class just as if it was a true first class fare.

That's such a great help, thank you :)

Are there certain flight codes I should be looking for?

I'm assuming I look for business/ first class flights and then scan those for particular flight codes?

cheers

L

I don't look for flight codes -- all I care about is whether the price is reasonable for the SC earn. For instance, there are three different KUPP fares and one YUPP fare from LAX to DFW on AA, all at different price points. But even the cheapest KUPP is too expensive for a status run between those two cities.

Thanks for the tip, I've been scratching my head silly trying to find the farecompare Y-up search page because I didn't realise it had cease to exist. Thanks for the tip TimB!

on AA for example, just look for the fares under the 'instant upgrade' heading. No need to look for individual fare rules or anything. Once you have found flights, click on the flight details to see that it is in First (some aircraft operate in single economy class only, and some operate as three class, so you may only be seated in business class)

If you're looking for F SCs make sure your fare class is A, F or P.

I used quite a few of these last month and got some great value trips.

I found going from PHL-LAS via DFW gave me a lot of very cheap SCs.
