So i've just booked my first JASA flights for my ADL trip next week, as follows:

28th June DWN - BNE - TVL - BNE - ADL

and returning

2nd July ADL - BNE - TVL

5th July TVL - BNE - DWN

This should earn me 520 SC in total

So...

I log onto my account and see the following:

Membership Status
Current Status: Bronze
Qantas Club will expire: 31 December 2012
Status credits earned from 01 Jul 2010: 190
Additional Status credits required by 30 Jun 2011 to attain Silver: 110

Loyalty Bonus
Additional Status credits required to obtain next Loyalty Bonus: 440

Does this mean I am going to forfeit all of my SC on the 30th June?

Thus making this SC run useless?

The idea was to achieve Gold in one hit, with 520 from the run and 190 in possession, therefore giving me 710.

Thoughts?

Correct.

Your SC's reset to zero at the end of your membership year.

If you want to hit SG then you'll need to bring your flights forward to before 30 June.

Your flight to ADL will net you 260 SC's so you will make Silver, and you will also hit the loyalty bonus (+5,000 FF points) but for a SC run .....

Buckley's chance.

BTW, you haven't been 'done'... The SC annual reset has always been part of the T&C's. It's more a matter of planning your flights to suit.

JASAs are refundable (may pay a service fee over phone).

Unless you have another purpose to the travel, cancel and rebook all prior or all after (head start for next year) June 30.

Looks like three choices.
  1. Bring all flights forward before cut off 30 June to make Gold
  2. Refund Jasa's for money and points back
  3. Change Jasa's so only just make 300 status credits for Silver this member year, then do rest after 1 July to regain Silver and have a head start to Gold before 30 June 2012.

So ive been done...

Hardly done. This is how the system has worked for as long as I can remember (over 12 years). It's a part of the program and has always been prominently displayed on the summary page.

'dems da brakes as they say!

So what should I do, call qantas and ask for a refund on the return leg and try to get a direct flight home, preferably the 2nd june.

Or wait till I am at the brisbane J lounge and see if they can do the shuffle?

Can I refund the return leg and do an extra SC run before hand?

I needed 20Sc to keep silver by 30 June and then the ash cloud hit. I had a JASA from Brisbane to Sydney last Wednesday. I was stuck in Sydney when my flight to Brisbane was cancelled on Tuesday.
I was on hold for 2 hours to the 131131 number before giving up and calling customer care. I asked to change dates to next Tuesday and the lovely lady said no can do. I asked for the points back so I could rebook and she said yes I can have the points back. I am still waiting for them.
When I tried to change the booking online it only offered me a voucher for $185. Now I have no points and the booking has disappeared from my bookings.
Looks like back to bronze for me.

I am sure I read somewhere on AFF that if flights are booked close to expiry date with adequate points that they will give you status. There was a post explaining this clearly with policy. ...Cant find it - Help anyone? or was I dreaming?

It's up to you. If you want to make SG then you need to do it before June 30, which may be pushing it.

You've got Qantas Club till Dec 2012, so IMHO I'd postpone any SC run until your new membership year.

I wouldn't leave it until you hit the lounge, particularly with how busy they are with all the ash cloud fallout (no pun intended!)

That's for comping, not qualifying.

Depending on your flight history and forward bookings, they may comp you your existing status for another year if you haven't hit the minimum re-qualification numbers. They won't give you the next level status.

Either bring your travel to on or before 30 June, or on or after 1 July. If the schedule cannot be changed, then cancel at least the June portion. You then have 11.5 months to get another 440 SCs, which shouldn't be a hard task.

There seems to be a problem in the system that converts the refund of a JASA to a Voucher. Phone QF & let tham know your points havn't reappeared. Should get points into your QF account plus $ into your CC if you did both points & $ to book. It should work out ok. Get the person's name & ask them if it's possible to follow up with them if it doesn't happen.

While you're on the phone, maybe try to re-book something for this W/E, but in any case let whoever you are talking to know that the change of bookings will impact on your status.

Thank you for your help. I tried again today and waited 2 hours on hold and was finally answered by an angel that rebooked my flight for Tuesday using the original points. She understood my problem and solved it. It was worth the wait.

Just pray that TT do not reschedule your flight again.
