YUPP status run USA Help

Hi LOTFAP YUPP experts,

I am travelling to US for a conference in Austin, self funded. Below is my itinerary from TA.

Question -
1/ Is there a better way to do below itinerary with some YUPP and get better SC without breaking the bank?
I am flexible with dates, only firm commitment is to be at conference 13-18 MARCH. Willing to change airlines or schedule, just wont fly Y and would like to keep budget to about $4k or so.

2/ As I am going to be living in USA for 2 years come SEPT 2012 would joining AA FF program and credit QF trips to AA account?

Your opinions as always are welcome. Thanks, JAMES

QF 418 B 11MAR MEL SYD HK1 0900 1025
QF 7 T 11MAR SYD DFW HK1 1440 1350
AA 1543 Y 11MAR DFW AUS HK1 1600 1700
AA 542 N 19MAR AUS DFW HK1 1140 1245
AA 732 N 19MAR DFW LGA HK1 1345 1815
AA 3 Y 02APR JFK LAX HK1 1200 1510
QF 94 T 04APR LAXMEL HK1 2330 *0820

Fare $2812 Tax $694.284 = $3506.87 + $80 booking fee
I think All flights are under one booking with QF except for one DFW-AUS RTN.

There are numerous options but may not end up being cost effective.

Have you thought about MEL-LAX return or even MEL-JFK return and then internal flights to/from DFW or AUS as YUPPs?

If you are going to be living in the USA, the AA may be the way to go. Noie that if crediting to AAdvantage, K/YUPPs are not as lucrative in status earning as they generally are on QFF.

It's a shame AA don't do PE as those T class fares on AA flight number (if they existed) would have have enabled you to do a "Platinum Challenge" and have a kick start into AA status and 100% RDM bonus.

In any case, if you credit to AA your earn for that travel would be 21,201 RDM's and 27,045 EQP's. Your flights on AA would earn 5380 EQP's which is enough for their "Gold Challenge".

If you credit to Qantas you would earn 320 SC's and at least 23000 QFF points.

Seeing as though you're WP, do you have enough points for a one way PE or JASA fare MEL/LAX or MEL/DFW?

As you're moving back to the US 6 months after this the trip in March it may be better to purchase a return fare from the USA to Australia ie the following Y sale fare (must purchase ticket by 27 Dec 2011) is based on QF94 04Apr LAX/MEL & QF93 04Oct MEL/LAX for USD1534.99. Note that you cannot upgrade using points on this Y sale fare.

Another option for the same date as above is to buy a ticket in PE for USD3434.00 (must purchase ticket by 23 Jan 2012). You can use points to upgrade to a higher class on this fare.

Is your employer paying your airfare when you move to the US or will that be self-funded? If the employer was paying your fare they may reimburse you for the equivalent of a one way fare. The QF website lists a one way Y Super Saver for MEL/LAX for a departure of 04 Oct as being AUD2224.00 one way vs a PE fare for same date as AUD3094.00.

Note the OP is quoting transpacific travel in PE (T class) already.

Just looking at the itinerary, you may have a issue if the flight out of AUS is delayed with the connection in DFW.
