Hi All,

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fly from Australia to the USA in some degree of comfort – if you have leg/back issues – and you can’t afford F or J Class flying?

All I can think of is either Premium Economy – which is obviously a bit cheaper than J or F; or Economy class in the Comfort Class seats on Hawaiian Airlines.

American Airlines also have "Main Cabin Extra" which is premium economy-ish. mostly leg room I think.
Qantas Premium Economy is pretty reasonable. I'd check that out. Same seats as the 737 business class (non lie flat)

One option could be to look at Fiji Airways in business class. Sometimes they have cheap fares from Australia. Sometimes they might not - but may have cheap fares from Fiji - then you can buy a cheap Economy fare for the relatively short hop from (I presume) BNE to Fiji.

If you return from Dallas on QF8, you could always try to buy a "comfort row".

It's also worth looking out for "extra legroom" seats on the Qantas A380 that aren't exit row seats. 71D is one of them as there is no seat in front.

Yes I will be a solo flier. The leg up thing looks interesting!!

Tried to get to that link, but it was unavailable ATM. However, if it is the one I am thinking of, I have seen it before and it was quite interesting.

If I was coming home from the STH/Midwest, I guess through DFW is quite a good idea if you could get those seat rows. Thanks for your help, and all the ideas so far
;)

Are u travelling solo?

also have a look at:

heres the link to the "comfort row" on QF8 but not on QF7 and is a last minute thing
Enjoy a Whole Row to Yourself on a Qantas Flight

No matter what your strategy, you can't get a confirmed business class seat at discount economy prices.

Exit rows may offer more legroom but they come with catches. Almost guaranteed seatmates, generally no moveable armrests, close proximity to infants, no seat storage space, high foot traffic, if you have an exit aisle you lose much of the perceived extra space to traffic. Additionally nowhere to rest your legs and the seated angle may be uncomfortable for long periods if you are tall. The flylegsup won't work on exit rows for long haul flights.

Your best strategy might be to apply for a bunch of new credit cards and use points as your currency to getting a biz/first class seat and flying an airline which doesn't can't fill their planes.

I enjoyed PE on Air NZ- good service, good seats, and I was able to just book one way in PE.
But you do stop in AKL
