The results show Iberia is the weak link in the group, making a standalone operating loss of £209m in the period, while BA contributed operating profits of £228m.

That might speed up the loses at Iberia. But it's really not good news for IAG at all.

Good to see BA making good money though.

I saw WW is slashing 4,500 jobs out of IB as a result

We were in Spain late last year.....the scene with IB was the same as we endured here with QF.....unions pulling strikes, cancelled flights, pissed off passengers.

Absolute recipe for failure!

See what happens when BA bans QP members from Galleries lounges!

I might be the first to say it here, but what if the accounting is just as creative as with Qantas and Jetstar, to help cut Iberia and promote BA? Wouldn't put it past them in the grander scheme of things if they could just have one brand!

The group warned: "If agreement is not reached, deeper cuts and a more radical reduction in the size and scale of Iberia's operations will take place to secure the natural long haul traffic flows at Madrid and safeguard the company's future."

A good threat.

Yes, I have and I'm sure it's all Iberia's fault, but just offering up a partial alternative...

 25+% unemployment......and you think it's down to IAG & dodgy books!

If things get worse IB won't exist....

Well I'm not all surprised since it is a turd of an airline (then again being Spanish, not completely shocking either).

Maybe if they spent money on IB to give a better product (especially long haul) they might get some more customers in. After a downright horrid trip with them MAD-JNB I've refused to fly them since (and reading a lot of reviews I'm not the only one out there).

Not an airline I would fly again (& Brit friends wondered why I ever did...). Safety is a major concern: on 3 out of 3 sectors the cabin crew allowed J pax to leave large bags on the seat and floor during take off and landing. Crew friendly and helpful but not fulfilling their primary roel of safety

You were lucky getting friendly staff. One FA singled me out for particular abuse after I complained about the food being inedible.Landing at Madrid the whole J cabin except myself and mrsdron were up getting their bags as we taxied to the gate.So I thought I better join in.We were in last row of J and the FA pushed her way from the front of the cabin through the crowd and screamed at me to sit down.I am afraid I didn't defuse the situation as I just burst out laughing and pointed to all the others standing.

You can't really expect every European city to have its own long haul airline. It's simply not economic!

There are a few that need to go!

All 3 sectors had pax getting bags from overhead lockers whilst taxiing. Not a safe airline. If booking BA be very careful the flight is not a codeshare on IB

Similar story with RJ - crew taking photos with pax iPhones on taxi...

With their economy going so bad customers aren't going to pay the higher airfares, so then the airline can't afford to upgrade their product.

At least flying MAD to JNB you are avoiding the UK departure tav.

Iberian is on my airlines to try out bucket list.

The UK dep tax is money well spent to avoid IB!

And they say people here don't jump down your throat when you have a differing opinion.

samh004....hate to think that my comments were "jumping down your throat" It appears you took offence therefore - I apologise.

Spain is a breath away from anarchy. Talk about dodgy books - just belittles the reality that very many people are experiencing!

I love Spain, it is such a gorgeous country and I've always found the people there to be some of the friendliest around. Well everybody but Iberia staff!!! It takes a special type of Puta Madre to gain employment with IB.

But the countries economy is in the bucket (the politest way of saying it) and after visiting mates living there in June all of them are figuring out ways to return to Australia.

To this day thinking of Iberia makes a little bit of steam come out of my ears. And trust me I'm the easiest guy to fly with!

And yeah I got caught out a couple go times on the BA code share trap (before I knew better)
