A bit more on ANA's 787 choices
Posted by Michael Mecham at 6/22/2011 4:59 PM CDT

Here’s two other views (courtesy of Boeing) of the special livery that All Nippon Airways will use to celebrate the arrival of its first two 787-8s, which Brad Perrett blogged about earlier.

Boeing must be pleased. The delivery liveries display the numberals "787" on the forward fuselage as large as the airline's "ANA" logo on its tail.

Besides the livery for production aircraft eight and nine, ANA also has revealed some details about the cabin configurations of the new airplanes for long-range and regional operations.

That config looks very weird and it also seems a bit plastic and all 'hard' surfaces, might be very modern but doesn't look very relaxing and 'warm'.

All forward facing. Ausbt has a post with lots of pictures and a video

All facing forward? Then it looks like one row has one seat in the middle, the one in the foreground of this photo, with two wide bench spaces next to it, and the next row has two seats with one bench space between them, no contest which is going to be the most popular seat!

is a weird config.
best described as 1x1.5x1
ie. it alternates 1x1x1, 1x2x1

It does seem very weird at first, but it also means every seat gets access to the aisle, without having to climb over anyone. but really fat people will find it a tight squeeze into the A, K or middle seats.
Trust the Japanese to come up with something so efficient! Although it does feel a little sterile, and mechanical. Bit like japan.

now thats i'm at my desk, here's the link to many more pictures.

As I mentioned n another thread, I thought the middle seats especially looked a bit more claustrophobic than CX herringbone... Tight fit for your feet, and thanks to a recent TR a little similar to EY's J I think?

Why does new & innovative = less padding on seats....? Sorry but those biz seats look like office cubicles I once worked in. Whatever happened to padding that seems like you might not feel the superstructure underneath. To be honest it looks a bit Ikea to me, as if I could nip down to Rhodes and get it in a flatpack.

Yes, the whole cabin just reeks of modular 'commodity' design instead of warmth and comfort on a long journey although it'd be okay for short haul regional flights.

On that note, does anyone know what routes the 787 will be doing?

Well it's getting closer to an actual delivery,Boeing have started ETOPS testing on the 787 with a seven hour flight along the US west coast on Sunday.
Boeing announced the start of F&R/ETOPs testing today. The sole aircraft that is conducting the tests, ZA102, kicked the testing off yesterday with a seven hour and thirty minute flight along the west coast of the US. This airplane will be conducting all the F&R and ETOPs testing with the Trent 1000 engine.

This phase should last about 300 flight test hours after which Boeing should receive type certification and can proceed with deliveries to ANA around August or September. Given the amount of testing and allowing for maintenance, I anticipate that this final phase of testing should last about 45 days which means a mid August completion for the final phase of testing.

Boeing will still have to submit any remaining deliverables to the FAA and EASA and they would take at least a couple of weeks to issue the final type certification for the 787. Therefore, it is looking like an early to mid September delivery time frame for the 787 to ANA.
All things 787

Blue interiors always feel cool, and sometimes depressing!:-|

But I notice in the blurb they can change the lighting colour at least.

Maybe the 360 is the turn around again and keep going when the 180 has failed.:p

I like the look of the cabin - a bit stark, but good blend of privacy and space, but maximising seating per floor space given the lie flat beds.

I was under the impression that Boeing was looking at certifying the 787 for ETOPS 330 but that may have changed, also I think Airbus is proposing
an ETOPS of 350 minutes for the A350?
