Jetstar flight DRW/SGN cancelled due to pilot noshow

Jetstar had to cancel their DRW/SGN leg of flight JQ73 yesterday (Sat 25 Sep) when both the Captain and First Officer failed to show up for duty to operate that sector.

Passengers in transit from SYD were left stranded overnight will no available crew to operate the onward sector of the flight. Passengers due to fly SGN/SYD on the return sector JQ74 were stranded in SGN with no aircraft to operate their flight.

JQ74 26 Sep still operated the DRW/SYD sector only so local joining passengers were unaffected.

Sources were saying both pilots were seen at a local licenced premises appearing far from unwell.

Wonder if they'll be a noshow next Saturday if rostered again or be reprimanded by management for their actions.

Good to see pilots whom know the rules...

No smoking 8 hours before flying; and
No drinking within 100 metres of the aircraft.

Of course, some people have it the other way around.

Sorry, I must be totally out of touch with reality having never worked in such a unionised environment, but I think “reprimanded by management for their actions” is an incredibly soft penalty for what I can only imagine is a serious breach of the pilots’ contracts with the airline.

Surely the pilots will be lucky if they work for the airline again or, as I suggested, am I completely out of touch with the airline industry’s employment environment?
 
If this was the case JQ will not be happy with what has happened.

I'm also positive that JQ would not be happy with a ground handler (not JQ) making these comments in an online forum.
 
Wow, seriously unprofessional if what you're implying has really transpired.

"Reprimand" probably wouldnt cut it given the cost to JQ.

The comments are reported as no more than rumour. And forums such as these, like many people generally, thrive on rumour and scuttlebutt, as the PPRUNE forum acknowledges in its title!

Not much they can do about it given its in the NT paper soon if not already and there were quite a few affected pax, we all have the freedom of speech, although DJ are doing a great job at keeping their recent issues very low profile, namely:

1. The 737 that was damaged during a tow when the pin sheared and the aircraft decided to race the tug in MEL early this week VH_VUM
2. The 73 that came of the jacks during the recent NZ earthquake.
3. The 777 that tried to merge with the LAX jetblast barrier.

I'm also positive without the input of people on the scene to this forum (that have significant experience and factual knowledge of events) we would be led up the garden path more often than we are by the spin doctors, I support open and free discussion, not censorship.

Sounds like somone's got a chip on their shoulder....can't handle anyone taking a potshot at JQ but when it comes to another airlines' misfortune you can't contain yourself, gleefully posting links to photos of disrupted DJ passengers & clearly frustrated at the lack of media coverage given:

If I was cynical I would say that judging by all the posts not only the thread below but numberous other DJ threads on AFF where you put the boot in, that you're enjoying the misfortune their system outage has caused, which incidentally can and does happen to all airlines at some time or another.

Greetings.

As an update to this thread, the same flight (SGN-DRW @10pm) was also cancelled last Monday evening. At 2am (after a 5 hour wait at Saigon airport) we were eventually bussed to accommodation for the evening with no indcation for the reason for the delay. Both the Jetstar and Saigon airport web sites however indicated the earlier arriving aircraft departed back to DRW at 12:30am in the morning sans passengers I assume.

Some people on this cancelled flight had already been routed through Singapore on the way up in the previous week due to the cancellation of a DRW-SGN sector.

On another note, our 5 hour flight to SGN the previous Thursday was in the very spacious and comfortable :shock: NON - recline seating configuration of the A320. Lucky we had purchased exit seats at least. Some pretty disgruntled passengers however who made their thoughts well known to staff on board.

As a QFF SG for many years I chose to fly with Jetstar due to a possibly misplaced loyalty. Although I am well aware of the separation of the two groups, I would like to think that when an airline trades on the status of a "Qantas Group Airline' (emblazoned on the aircraft) that they would treat their mostly Australian passengers with a little more consideration or at least provide full disclosure of what to expect on board. To board and find you have a 5hr upright ride ahead, is a little disingenuous I think.

On return, an A321 was sent to collect both the cancelled and scheduled flight passengers and on board the cabin service can only be politely described as chaotic. Perhaps a late minute aircraft change affected crew experience or preparedness?

Anyway, Saigon is a terrific city. However, maybe consider other alternatives for getting there.
