Qantas WP7 App Will Predict Journey Times Based On Your Location | Gizmodo Australia

QantasWP7-541x400.jpg

The Qantas app announced at MIX 11 overnight sounds pretty sweet – as well as letting you remotely check in and receive a digital boarding pass, it uses the phone’s location software to estimate travel times.

I'm considering getting a WP7 phone in september... nice to see QF is sharing the app love, and it looks fantastic also!

Funny that they have chosen Win 7 for the first version of this app.
Thinking that Blackberry would of been more biz related.
I think MS approached QF first to help market the brand.

Don't ever underestimate the stuff that goes on at extremely high levels between large corporations/entities

I am not for one moment stating it happened here, but has any one heard of IT being told "thou shalt ...".

I am glad MS is looking into UI in their products finally.
But they have a long way to catch up.

Hopefully it will be better than the woeful iPhone App that was available a while ago and more useful than the pointless iPhone frequent flyer app that is currently available.

Hopefully QF will learn pretty quickly that there isn't much of a userbase on W7 too, and develop the apps on other platforms.

That being said, I wouldn't use it unless there was built-in seat selection. Does it have that?

You're missing some important points about this. The applicaton itself takes advantage of upcoming features in the next iteration of Windows Phone (background processing, for example), so don't expect it to be released just yet.

But more importantly, you need to ask yourself how it came to be developed for an upcoming release of Windows Mobile. Read serfty's post and think about it.

I doubt it would have that. The problem is the Microsoft hasn't really made a push to existing developers to start using or developing for their products.
Apple have a reasonably good tool, but silly process. Android have a simple process but a dumb open source tool. I would look at Win7 phone if the process and tools are better then the rest.

Looking at the functionality, I enjoy that Qantas are looking at different styles of apps for different markets. The Qantas Website-app is terrible! And the frequent 'buyers' app is well made, but of no interest for anyone who wants to fly and not waste 20000 points on a Woolworth's voucher.

Qantas need to focus its attention on developing an app continuous with the functions of the website first before trying to innovate an emerging product and market. Unfortunately I think the Marketing department has had too much input and screaming 'brand integration' rather then functionality - standard corp watering down of ideas!

Why they're not making an Android app is beyond me.

Look at the features the BA app is getting on Windows Phone 7 Mango:

Live from Microsoft's Windows Phone VIP preview event! -- Engadget

10:25AM Nobody wants to hear that Captain Jack went on a weekend bender before your Sunday red-eye.

10:25AM Wow, you can even see the menu, the movie selection, and the captain's name. Doesn't look like you can link to his Facebook profile, which might be for the best.

10:24AM Ooh, 3D walkthrough of the plane to pick your seat. Gratuitous use of polygons!

10:24AM That sounds lovely if you fly BA a lot, but how about the integration we were hearing so much about a moment ago? Would be lovely to do this on all airlines...

10:23AM Tap it and you naturally jump in and see all your upcoming flights, get updates, see your seat, etc.

10:23AM There's a live tile for the app, which gives time and date and other details.

10:23AM Okay, looking at a British Airways app now. Who's up for a little Eurotripping?

Is this still 'coming soon', or am I just unable to find it? Any rumours/predictions on a release date?
