Ok so I am not too good at these trip reports but when doing the research for this trip there wasn't that much information to go on.

I needed to to get to Hawaii for a wedding, I had QFF, VFF and AA points and wanted to fly at the pointy end. I had considered taking a plus 1 at the beginning so this impacted my search. In the end I only needed to book for 1.

QFF points - finding seats even at 10mths out was difficult- Jetstar offers ect and once I did the taxes check this was not really an option (I could pay for a Y seat for same approximately), thought there was the first to Auckland on emirates which was very tempting.

VFF points bne to hnl - finding seats on Hawaiian above economy was next to impossible - in the end I just booked the ticket and paid all in points (53,900). I then called Hawaiian to book a comfort seat (think this was $110 USD) - row 11 was all gone and I ended up booking 34a

VFf points hnl to bne - when originally looking for 2 I could only get 1 seat via VFF in business but with my AA points I could book a second, thankfully I didn't have to burn the AA points and I purchased my return in business via VFF for 96,900 all in.

I continued to monitor the outbound leg and 2 weeks prior to departure I managed to score a business class reward ticket - unfortunately comfort seat payment is not refundable but that was a small price.

Check in at BNE is performed by QFF staff - should open 4hrs before but don't bother rushing as they don't open on time, I think it was just under 3hrs to go. Lounge is QANTAS but at 9.30pm it was not busy (I had 1 friend), by the time I left it was full as I believe it was a Taiwan flight also departing.

Will post pictures as soon as I get home as will need to resize every single one

Thanks for the report!

I flew BNE-HNL, HNL-BNE in June and also found checkin to open quite late (and there was already a very long queue before it opened). Flew comfort-plus on the way over, and paid to upgrade to business on the return leg at check-in. Unfortunately the outbound leg (O Bucket) was ineligible for earn (points/sc) with VA.

Were you able to search for these award seats on the Virgin website, or did you have to phone? When I looked last it appeared that Virgin was only selling tickets SYD-HNL, and not from BNE (online at least).

I had to call VA to do the search....as above on the way over there was nil availability until 2 weeks prior to departure. On the way home i was able to book straight away when I rang the first time

Sweet. How many points in business each way?

The VFF website now indicates that business reward seats can be booked on Hawaiian Airlines and can be done on line, if you can find availability.

Looking from 11ab to the other side between business and comfort is just a curtain

There was 6 of us at 12.30ish, it did however get busy by the time I left to catch my 2.40pm back to Brisbane I would say there was 20 people in there. This lounge you can pay to enter and some people did, the one down stairs (more like QANTAS pub was very full)

Wow! First row of comfort seats look pretty amazing!

HA is supposedly going full flat in first/business - not sure of the timescale for that though. Will make it a competitive product to HNL (and certainly industry leading between HNL and mainland USA)
