My main aim for this trip was to grab the 120 SCs I needed to requalify for Gold status. So a J trip from MEL-OOL would provide me with this.
I don't fly J often. In fact I have seen my beloved Richmond play in more finals games in the past 10 years than I have flown J.
So with this in mind, I decided to travel via SYD and gain an extra J flight experience for the same cost.
I had two main criteria in mind. The first was to time my flights as much as possible around scheduled meal services. If I am paying out of my own pocket, then I figured I may as well get the most out of it. The second was to spend as less time at OOL as possible, considering there is no Lounge access.
Be warned friends. I take LOTS of photos.

Scheduled departure time: 7am
Ammended departure time after delay: 7.15am
Aircraft: brand new 738 in new livery
Seat: 2D
Load: I was the only pax in J (Y seemed about 90% full)
Flight time as announced by captain: 1 hour and 6 minutes
I arrived at the Lounge at 6am, an hour before departure. All three BPs printed out by Lounge dude. Even though I knew I was getting breakfast on the flight to SYD, I couldn't wait that long. I was up at 4am and by now I was Starvin Marvin. So I pumped a few bad boy pancakes out of the machine and grabbed a strong flat white from the barista.
Priority boarding worked a treat. Straight through and scanned straight away. Stepped on board and immediately impressed.
Was greeted by name as you would expect and settled into my seat. Continued to be called by my name throughout the flight.
Found the seat to be quite hard. Uncomfortable actually. Seat width is impressive, though. Legroom a standard 38" and at 184cm tall, I love being able to stretch my legs out.
Service commenced with a pre-flight glass of water or OJ. I chose the water. Was offered a choice of the Herald Sun or the Australian to read. I chose the Herald Sun to catch up on the latest footy news even though I can't stand the publication.
Soon we were pushing back at exactly 7.15am to the south with a right turn and on to Sydney town. Offered a Dig-e player once the seat belt sign went off. I accepted, but only to see what offerings it had. Seems pointless offering movies on a one-hour flight. You would only get halfway through before having to stop and hand it back. The other disappointing thing about the Dig-e player is that there are no half-hour shows to watch. Banged Up Abroad, Glee etc are an hour. (at least least I think Glee is an hour. Not sure.) Would it be more worthwhile having 30-minute shows? The music offering was poor, too. I shut it down and left it on the seat next to me.
I can't quite recall the exact names of both offerings for breakfast, but one was a pastry and the other was a potato rosti.
By now I was starving and really looking forward to a hot brekky. I was asked by the lovely Bridget what I would like to drink. Coffee please. Bridget asked me how I like my coffee. Strong, with one sugar please. Nice touch. I chose the rosti.
The meal was very nice.
