Needed to get to KUL plus a few other in country locations. Decided on MH.

Check in at SYD was handled by Toll Dnata. All went well enough. Was advised I could use the MH lounge or as a OWE it was suggested I use the QF 1st lounge (like I was going to use anything else). Within a few mins I was checked through KUL connecting to a MH Domestic flight. Express path for Syd was also provided without needing to ask.

The usual pics of Syd 1st:

Lounge shots at night (flight was a 9:40pm departure). Lounge was very empty and easy to get a table plus lounge chair. Made for a very peaceful dining environment and nice to almost have the place to myself. Staff were also very friendly.

Boarding ... I can't advise if priority boarding worked as I waited in the lounge until 'last call' was announced (allowed for an extra glass of bubbles).

On board I was welcomed with a big smile and my name was used. Most of the plane had boarded and the J cabin was 100% full. I was later told the plane was 100% full. As I found my seat a flight attendant came over and asked if I needed any assistance etc plus what drink I'd like. No alcohol was available for pre-departure. When I asked why, she said something but I can't now remember as I had a few glasses of bubbles that were starting to catch up with me. She did assure me as soon as they were airborne she'd have the Champagne open with a pre-dinner drinks service. And true to her word, the Champagne started flowing. It was continually topped up without needing to ask. I even had to reject top ups as I was starting to reach my limit (I gasp in horror as I write this).

Service was attentive and friendly. Whenever I pressed the call button a FA was there immediate with whatever I needed (I was starting to guzzle water for some reason:oops:)

Anyways, the seat was not flat. But rather like skybed mk1 angled, thought it was more comfortable than a mk1 (due to what felt like more padding). I was also offered a second quilt when they saw I was using it to prop up my feet (I declined as I like a cool temps).

There was a good selection of in-flight entertainment, but I went to sleep quickly. The amenity bad was a Tumi bag with all the usual goodies. No PJs are issued.

Food ... Satay (very yum and chicken or beef or both), Prawn with a salmon mouse thing under it (very yum), main of chicken with BBQ sauce (yum).
I skipped dessert. But the food was excellent and what I would have expected in the QF 1st lounge.

Disembarkation from the international flight was smooth.
I cleared immigration and then headed up to Domestic departures (after you clear KUL immigration (after getting off the skytrain) you then exit customs and turn left and take elevator up to level 5 departures. The clear domestic security (like Syd / Mel domestic). No lags issues and didn't even take laptop out of bag. It was fast and efficient.

I then found the MH (OWE/S) lounge located near gate A.
Lounge was like a QF domestic / business lounge (a cross between the two). Food was average.
Upon entry they confirmed I was a OWE (even thought I was flying MH J) and warmly welcomed me in. Wifi worked well.

Here are some lounge and food shots. The lounge has an excellent view of the airport (forgot to take that shot)

Bathroom and showers.
Showers - there was two of them and no issues with needing to wait. They were a little old but did the job fine.
Shampoo, bath gel, toothbrush & paste, razor and cream and hair comb was all supplied.

And then my MH B737 at the gate.
Priority boarding worked well. They called to the pax at the gate for each 'class' to board.

Overall I enjoyed MH very much.
They still have somethings to iron out, but overall I will definitely use them again and now will also consider them long haul with their newly minted A380s.
Bang for buck, they passed the test with flying colours. mmm I now seem to want some Satay for some strange reason.

I hope some of you find it useful if you are thinking of MH.

My intention is to try to post pics that have some meaning to the frequent traveler or why-fly-direct-when-you-can-connect leisure traveler as things like smooth connection, food, lounge and showers make a real difference especially if it is more than 1 sector.

Happy and safe travels.

End.

You chose the exact same seat I always go and sit at in the F Lounge! good choice :)

Yep the MH description incorrect, but points and SCs posting correctly seems to be a common issue.

I get this with other airlines as well e.g JAL. SC post is always correct but description is wonky. It must be something to do with how the miles are calculated as they aren't full miles but more like discount economy.

Phew, had me scared there for a minute :) only the Japanese could load up a 74 and fly it for only an hour on a regular schedule for years.
