I don't mind an occasional flutter so I received correspondence from WilliamHill and Crownbet that says you can exchange their reward points (which you accumulate on bets made) into Velocity points. Crownbet's offer is only until May but didn't read any expiry condition for William Hill.

Can't see much promo for it except through the gambling sites, even then it doesn't seem to be advertised.

Probably VA does not want to be seen to encourage betting overtly.
Maybe its an ACMA rule that VA cannot advertise gambling.
Covertly, they via William Hill and Crownbet can get you deeper, as they know you are interested.
Like smoking ads now not allowed on TV. But they still do have William Hill ads, though you won't see William Hill ads with VA in tandem.

William hill have only just brought out the rewards system, crown bet have had it for a little while.
I guess virgin are jsut testing the waters with it. But it makes sense, generally people are betting have disposable income. always good to have another avenue to earn points for nothing.
Every bet earns points, so just have to tick it over on small odds bets and its free points.

They are exploring who else they can sell frequent flyer points to given they will be selling less to the banks with the interchange restructures.

I used to use CrownBet a couple of years ago for a punters club I was in so had about 8k of their reward points racked up from betting and a signup bonus. Probably not the best value at 2pts = 1 Velocity but had no other use for them so transferred them all for just under 4K Velocity points last night.

Seems strange when Virgin won't let you use their credit card at gambling sites?

Virgin have nothing to do with payments to gaming and gambling merchants not being permitted on Virgin Money cards I'm afraid.

Virgin Money cards are issued by Citi, and Citi have a general ban on using cards they issue for this purpose.

I was under the impression that many credit cards treated gambling site transactions as cash advances?

If so, given the likelihood for that to result in problems with customers, a blanket ban may be a more sensible approach.

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I just discovered this rewards points tie up. I'm a Qantas FF, have never really flown virgin. I'm also a very casual punter, but have just discovered that I have the equivalent of 10000 virgin points redeemable. Does anyone know if there's anything stopping me from placing some big bets at $1.01 and earning the points? While I might not fly virgin, I could always earn a few points from punting and at least get a flight or two out of it. Also does anyone know if there are any bookies that have similar tie ups with Qantas?

cheers

This:shock:. I'm pretty sure they have some sort of system to prevent these stuff from happening. Worse scenario will have you banned and removing all your points.

I doubt they have an issue with it. You still have the potential to lose money, and the last time they shut people down for being gamed was when they had thousands of signups just for the bonuses who transferred them straight out.
