Just got an email, effective from tomorrow:

I didn't get an email.

Still cheaper than QF though, if Trans-Tasman (i.e. DJ "International" and QF uses the domestic charge) is only marginally less so.

So I wonder what the justification for the Credit Card increase is ...

Same as QF? "'Cos we can?" Inflation? The Labour party's back in government? Strong A$? Appeasing shareholders? Yearly Christmas Enhancements?

Beats me, who cares, it's done, next patient please.

Why am I not surprised?

So if credit card charges have not increased how do they justfiy an increase in credit card surcharge? They are supposed to have surcharges to recover the cost of doing business.

Yeah right!

Actually, DJ's CC fee is "per PAX per Sector" unlike QF's "per PAX per Booking".

As a result DJ's CC fees for domestic and T-T return/round-trip bookings can be higher than those of Qantas' for similar routings.

Of course, one-way bookings are where the DJ philosophy is really of benefit.

Just did a dummy booking of BNE-SYD-BNE and BNE-AKL-BNE on DJ, and you're right :(

With Domestic CC charge going up to $4.50 and International CC charge going up to $7.00, a BNE-SYD-BNE booking means paying $9.00 in charges and a BNE-AKL-BNE booking $14.00.

With QF, as long as you book the return flight all in one, it's only $7.70 for either one. Whilst that wouldn't often make up the entire difference between the price of flying QF or DJ, it's not looking good for DJ with these CC charges. Seeing as there's no further comment, however, or new news article, I guess most people don't care. Now why can't QF get away with a similar crime without comment?

On the plus side, VA's credit card charge is only $15 per pax per booking. This is half of what QF charges at the same unit.

Yep, that's part of the nastiness of their particular charge. Never fear though Virgin Blue, I have a few different ways to cause you higher costs with my bookings yet not actually pay your credit card fees... Karma!

Yeah right!

If fares go up, then the CC (charged at a flat rate) would need to go up to recover the "cost of business" (as that would be charged at a %)
