What is the offering for economy flexible fare food?
Does it depend on the flight time eg. larger offering for coast to coast?

Not the same stuff as off the trolley, I know that much, last flight I took it was a snack service with what looked like cheese and biscuits and wine, again it was different to the offerings normally for sale.

From what I've had so far:

Lunch Flights:
- Wrap of cold meat and salad
- Lindt chocolate block
- Plastic cup of Apple or OJ

Evening Flights:
- Pack of crackers
- Small tub of salsa
- Block of cheese
- Chocolate
- Plastic (small) cup of red or white or a crownie (I'm assuming the latter would be a bottle off the cart)

I've upgraded each of my flexi-fares to premium while the current $35 upgrade promo is on (small price for a better selection - yes I know I could just pay for it but it makes me feel special!). All my flights have been short sectors (SYD-BNE length) so I'm not sure what the go is on longer legs. I did one TSV-BNE (which is classed as medium so my upgrade was $50) and upped to Premium, however the crew initially handed over my Flexi food and it was the same as the short ones.

I've had a flexi fare breakfast just 2 weeks ago. Can't for the life of me remember what it was, but it was more appealing to me than the QF breakfast. There was definitely juice and a muffin. Pretty sure there was something else, but not cereal as I don't eat that and can't recall feeling annoyed at getting something I don't eat.

Well that was pretty useless of me. Maybe someone will have the full info.

The breakfast pack is quite nice:

- Juice
- Muffin (seems a mixed bag of varieties)
- A cereal type "bar"
- Apple (cored and chopped)

Not bad really..

Wonder if there's any difference on longer PER flights...

Must be on par with what QF offer? I've been wondering what QF will cut back next in Y catering on these longer flights . . .

The food offerings seem to be the same on all sectors, with the type of product differing between what time of day you fly
Only 1 x flexi fare meal is provided per passenger per flight, regardless of the duration of the flight.

No soft drink!

Asked for a Coke Zero, was told it was either water, beer or wine. Confused to say the least.

It would have been PepsiMax anyway. You cant get a coke any more on VA :(,,,, Thats OK, I like Pepsi anyway :). But yes it does seem strange that you can have a beer thats worth 5-$8 yet cant have a $3 Pepsi

Breakie was nice (same as allitsab got......muffin was banana) and add a coffee or tea as well.

Just before my flight home, my client bought me a HUGE plate of freshly made Sushi.......wonderful. So I couldn't eat another bite on the plane, but I did accept the wine ;) and the thoughtful FA offered me the cheese and crackers instead of the meal if I preferred. I even had to decline that, despite the fact I really enjoy those cheese and cracker packs .

Hey Daniel can you (or anyone else) confirm whether if you upgrade you get the SC's at P/E rates or at the rate of the original booking?

SC's are earned at the rate of the original fare purchased and NOT the PE rate under the upgrade offer

It is obvious they have gone with Pepsi due to the better margin they can make on them, but honestly, the fact that you can have a $7 beer but not a $3 can of soft drink is a bit silly and needs to be sorted out. If a customer had a can of soft drink it would be more beneficial to them!

Hi danielribo, can you (or anyone else) give me a hint what this "upgrade offer" is about, and where to find information about it? Haven't heard of this before.

Thanks!

This post (#85) looks about right, dinner looks quite meh and I hope they do change it around quite a bit as this one has been on for a few months.

Any time I have flown flexi, I try for the PE upgrade.

But saver fare is where the cool kids rock ;)

Here is my idea for a Flexi menu, simple and easy, allowing for choice and variety:

Flexible Fare Economy Guests
may choose one item from the 'Light Meal' section of the menu and/or one item from the 'Snack' section, and one alcoholic beverage of their choice. All non-alcoholic beverages e.g. soft drinks, juices and coffee are complimentary.

Premium Economy Guests have unlimited food and beverage from the menu

And here-in lies the problem with full service mixed in with paid service. On QF it's not a choice of this or that, it's here's your refreshment would you like tea or coffee? Everyone knows that's how it works and are happy with it. you don't see people on the QF forum posting 'well I don't like that sandwich, can't they give me a different one?'. But DJ flyers have been trained into choices. They want to pick and choose the way they are used to doing. Personally I think they have to make the decision, to either offer choices to everyone or a standard to everyone. Anything in-between is just messy.
