Have I just been having bad luck or does VA not regularly clean their tray tables?

3 of the last 4 flights I've taken with VA the tray table is a dirty, sticky mess. Last one was so gross I put it right back up. I don't usually complain to VA but I think I might have to let them know how disgusting their planes have been for me lately.

The rest of the plane seems fine, they just don't put the trays down when cleaning or something.

I would complain. I think VA get their crew to clean the aircraft during turns, but they should be getting proper cleans at the end of the day.

Don't VA use Aerocare cleaning crews?
Their website says cabin cleaning, and they do ramp work for VA.
From the time the plane lands and the cleaning crew come onto the plane with their aeroplane backpack vacuums, I don't think they do any food tray table cleaning.
Turnaround times are very tight.

I submitted a complaint. We'll see what kind of automated reply I get. :/

Next time I will mention it to the cabin crew if I see it. I hate to do that, but someone should at least know it needs attention.

Cabin cleanliness or lack thereof has been widely noted recently and discussed in other VA threads.

So - no, not bad luck it seems unfortunately.

Take photos and post on Twitter and Facebook.

I feel the same about the air vent area, it's so dusty that you can write your name sometimes.

When you are making a loss cleaning is always under pressure on the money saving front. But in the world of airlines I'd like ot see where is ranks in saving real money.

I wish I had some photos when I wrote the complaint. But it isn't my first instinct to do that when I see something disgusting. I'll be ready next time (hopefully there isn't a next time).

Agreed. I would have have thought that for an airline fuel and capital would be the big costs.

The trouble with cutting cleaning costs is that it is all hourly labour rates plus the contractors margins.

There is no high tech alternative and certainly no "made in China" option.

A cut in cleaning costs just means fewer hours to do the job (or not do the job) in very competitive industry.

You're not the only person to complain of a drop in aircraft cleaning standards at VA lately.

A while back there was a big, stale piece of chewing gum stuck between the pages of the Virgin in-flight menu I was reading. Needless to say, I put it straight back and didn't buy anything. It must have been there for weeks - I was surprised nobody had noticed.

Is there a pattern starting to emerge regarding cost cutting?

Pictures available ?

What kind of person puts their tray table away covered in s#*t? I would think it would be common decency that it you spill something you make a reasonable attempt to clean it up.

Well I got my canned answer back from Virgin. Not even worth posting here, didn't say anything really. But at least they responded. No compensation offered (not that I asked for it or care really, but figured someone would ask).
