Can someone confirm that the Gold Anytime lounge access also allows a guest?

That's my interpretation of it based on this:

Subject to space availability, Velocity Platinum and Gold members are welcome in the Virgin Australia lounge at any time, and do not require a boarding pass...

Each time you enter the Virgin Australia lounge, you may invite one Guest to join you at no charge. Your Guests do not need to be travelling with Virgin Australia to join you.

Thanks.

I just did this today, saw off a friend flying QF. I wasn't flying.

I only had my ancient old velocity rewards card. Was asked to see my QF card in case the status match wasn't on their system (though I knew it was). All rather informal and was warmly welcomed in.

Found the Velocity package in the mail on the way home, will be looking forward to flying them :)

I have done it a couple of times, no dramas. The only question asked was, do you need me to check you in, or reprint a boarding pass? Just answered, no thanks, not flying today, and they replied no problem, enjoy.... It really is a fantastic benefit

If you are seeing someone off at the airport who is flying Virgin though, they will still let you in. So as a Gold member your guest is flying you are not ! you can still go in. Had that from the horses mouth yesterday in MEL lounge.

That's interesting because that is not what we are all lead to believe at all.

If that is the case, then you had better post in the other thread to let people know and make Virgin clarify their position and online printed policy.

I will clarify when I'm in the lounge tonight in MEL and then post when I have the same response from a different Lounge manager to make sure! Just in case it was one persons interpretation of the rules...

This is mentioned on the entry tab of the lounge page;

Virgin Australia lounge | Virgin Australia
Members’ Guests

Virgin Australia lounge members and Velocity Gold Members may invite one accompanying guest to the Virgin Australia lounge at no charge. Guests do not need to be travelling with Virgin Australia to join Members. Additional guests will be charged $65 at the lounge reception.Velocity Platinum Members may be accompanied by up to three guests at no charge.

It also says this on the landing/homepage for the lounge;

Please note: Effective 15th of August 2012, Velocity Frequent Flyer Gold and Platinum Members will require a same-day boarding pass for Virgin Australia or one of its airline partners in order to access the Virgin Australia lounge. All other lounge access entitlements still apply.

One would think that guests without a boarding pass is a form of ATA access.

The obvious would be boarding pass for departure but could a same-day boarding pass be passed upon arrival?

One would think that guests without a boarding pass is a form of ATA access.

That does not clarify that WP and SG members may enter the lounge even if they do not possess a boarding pass for themselves, yet a guest who is accompanying their entry has one themselves.

That said, I wonder if this is one of those unwritten discretionary things...

The obvious would be boarding pass for departure but could a same-day boarding pass be passed upon arrival?

From the other thread (some of it here doubling with the other - suggest a mod consider a merge), I think it was agreed that same-day boarding passes are fine. This means arrivals access is fine, as is more irregular combinations of travel, as long as you have a BP for a VA or VA allied airline flight on that day.

The obvious would be boarding pass for departure but could a same-day boarding pass be passed upon arrival?

Yes, it could. The preceding paragraph says that a "Virgin Australia lounge member or Velocity Platinum or Gold Member" will be able to access the lounge when they present a boarding pass for onward travel.

The paragraph you've quoted then extends this to allow "Velocity Frequent Flyer Gold and Platinum Members" to present a "same-day boarding pass." That second paragraph would be redundant if it was not intended to allow arrivals access to the lounge.

There is a claim by 'KC' at the bottom of this article on Ausbt that "Interesting to note that yesteday I had the policy expalined to me by a lounge staff member. A Platinum or Gold member can access the lounge if they are not flying if they are taking a guest in who is flying."

Yes very interesting, would like to have that one confirmed again.
