I was having a look at the Virgin Australia mobile site on my iPhone last night and spotted this written at the bottom of the page in relation to baggage fees:

Velocity VIP.jpg

The statement at the bottom says: *Optional checked baggage charge does not apply to Velocity VIP, Platinum, Gold and Silver Members...

Velocity VIP??? What is that all about?? I can't find any reference to it anywhere else. Is it like the Chairman's Club or what??

I'm interested to hear any thoughts or details of this from anyone out there as I did a search and couldn't find this anywhere on the forums or google for that matter so I thought I'd share it with you all!

Cheers,

Boof

Interesting find! Thank you for posting - sounds a bit like a CL equivalent to me...

Not a clue what it is, I wouldn't even dare guess.

I highly doubt there is a CL equivalent that we don't know about, or some sort of Platinum+ level. Especially when Virgin only have 8 or so lounges.

Could it be a mistake? I don't know.

In thinking about this it could be any of a number of things but i reckon it's either:

1. A mistake (i.e. Velocity VIP is meant to be a general term for those with status and it some how ended up in this list)
2. A level above Plat (as some have speculated) - i struggle to really see what they would have to offer there.
3. Or a level (effectively) below silver for corporate accounts or people whose contracts with VA default to including luggage and/ or food etc by nature of the agreements that VA has done with their employers/ travel agents. I could see that such a category would be useful?

When we are not satisfied with what we have then we go looking for something better....

Would it not be J/F guests code sharing on a DJ flight that do not hold status with DJ but with the partner airline?

In theory, that's what Velocity Platinum ought to be the equivalent of.

Seems to work much ore in the favour of Etihad Guest, particularly with access to the diamond first class lounge regardless of class of travel and points upgrades from business to first.....

I suggested this in one of the threads a while ago.
If DJ/VA want to go after the big corp accounts, you need a big carrot and DJ/VA would have to have some sort of CL tier to hook the big fish. I would not at all be surprised if there is/or will be a VA/DJ CL equivalent tier.

VA rep on AFF has also hinted at another SYD Lounge, like the QF J Lounge....or something better. ;)

Are you talking about the upstairs section at the Virgin Lounge in Sydney? It's pretty well known that is going to be a J Lounge in the near future.... The lounge staff have been talking about it for months.
