VA 8 delays?

From what I can piece together so far, looks like they are hoping everything will be back on schedule tomorrow - VA7 delayed today though.

By looking at their Facebook page, not many happy people. People sleeping on the floor of the terminal because they haven't got accommodation.

Don't have any more info, although I am on the VA2 from LAX to SYD tomorrow night (Thurs 30 Jul), and I have just had a raft of SMS's from Tripit regarding a delay of between 2 - 3 hrs, but nothing on the VA website. I've just read the article and wonder how that would have a knock on effect on the SYD service - does the BNE plane fly down to SYD to then return to LAX?

Interesting - in the past they have delayed Brisbane flights to protect the Sydney service. Maybe they are balancing it out to get as many flights as possible as close to their schedule as they can?

I was stuck waiting for VA7 on Wednesday, 1050dep finally left at 8.30pm! Oil leak both engines. AFP were basically guarding VA staff at the end people were starting to lose their mind. Pity those (including me lol) with separately booked onward connections

Compensation offered 25,000 velocity points for all passengers.

While inconvenient and unfortunate I think that's a pretty reasonable response from VA. Obviously everyone should wants safety first. The points a nice touch in my view.
