Hi,

As a QF FF Gold, I am very interested in taking my to Virgin, in the light of recent service improvements.

Is there currently a status match program at Velocity?

Cheers

There is but it's being kept quite quiet compared to their previous status match. It's a challenge whereby they grant you gold status for 3 months and in order to keep that status for the following year, you have to earn a certain number of status credits. They'll be picky about who they give it to, so if you do contact them asking them about it, it would help if you already have a flight or two booked with them. Or at least say you'll be aiming to take a couple of return flights with them. Good luck!

I tried to get status matched from Virgin Atlantic Gold and no go :(

Well they are a partner after all. Your existing status level will get you access to the lounge when flying them, so if you have enough status to last, you can credit to Velocity ("switching") while still gaining access to The Lounge till you achieve Velocity Gold.

I don't think Virgin really need to status match anymore. After all the OP has already stated that he's interested in switching based on whats going on now. In light of the 'enhancements' going on at QF and the rate at which they are annoying their loyalty base, massive inducements to come across aren't really needed. If you were bringing your whole company over it might be worthwhile but for the most part they could just wait for those who have already decided to jump ship to do so and earn their way to gold. It's not hard to see that a growing and improved lounge network, viable international partnerships and better hard product will eventually be inducement enough to capture the 20% business market they are after.

I'm not so sure. I wouldn't give up lounge access, excellent advanced seat selection, and priority check in, to move to DJ. Without a status match I would not move from QF.

I think their motivation for offering the current match is that there are some heavy duty fliers who would never consider because they stick with what they know. At least being able to offer them some status level means they might be more likely to take a few flights to test the competition.

I agree that they'll be able to catch the 20% that they want.
