First post on the site! Anyway I was talking with a friend who told me he got velocity status credits with EK a couple of weeks ago flying MEL-SIN return. My response was it must have been an error, but I had a look at the Velocity website and sure enough under the earn tabs for Emirates and Malaysian it clearly states you earn points and status credits based on the fare types. Take a look at the velocity website (I cant post links yet, sorry!)

When did this change? Suddenly Velocity is a far better program even though I know it can take forever to get the MH points credited.

Now I have to convince them that my flights this time last year means I should be Silver... Unlikely but I am going to give them a call!

Cheers,

Boof

Great. Assuming that you've got no status, now you just need to spend $10,000 (AUD) on Virgin Blue, or fly 100,000 mi on cheap Emirates/Virgin Atlantic/Malaysian fares to get the 50,000 SCs needed in a 12 month period. And that won't get you access to lounges when flying on non Virgin partners.

That is great news! Great to see this happening - although as someone who already has gold it is probably going to dilute my benefits quite a bit!

Actually it's closer to $8500 depending on your status but it does get you lounge access on Delta - which is a handy thing given how extensive their network is and soon to be (ACCC pending) on at least some ANZ services. Certainly Lounge access on MH and/or EK would be A HUGE additional bonus that would go a long way towards covering off the range of OW destinations offered by QF.

Wow -- this must be a fairly recent change; it certainly wasn't there a month ago when I last looked. Am actually kind of surprised that DL isn't on that list.

crazydave98, are there more surprises in store? Will we be able to use lounges and premium check-in on these carriers?

I wouldn't call these surprises - we have always said we would add these sort of features as we could. What will change with JB in the big chair is that these things will probably happen more quickly now and he is very keen on building relationships with other airlines.
cheers

Any chance of status recognition/ lounge access on of these partner carriers any time soon?

Excellent news! I always hesitate to fly EK and MH only because it doesn't really earn mileages/credits on alliance memberships. Now I will seriously consider them when flying as I have some credits in my DJ account. It would be great if you can get lounge access for those EK and MH Y flights for DJ Gold.

Let's just say that status recognition/lounge access with a network of international airlines is a very high priority for JB. Sorry I can't be more specific about who/what at this time.

I think that's enough info for a public forum. I really believe this is an important part of DJ getting more business travellers.

Can't wait.

This is good news, especially if recipricol benefits come along.

Malaysia is one of those airlines I also wish would join an alliance. But I guess if DJ can put together a set of partners with recipricol benefits then that is probably a good thing, and without the expense of joining an alliance.

Is it just me or has the EK and MH status credits offer gone missing from the Velocity web site. Perhaps Crazy Dave can give us an update?

777 it isn't just you. I've just checked the website and the offers for EK and MH have disappeared!! Crazy Dave can you tell us what the story is please?

I wonder if my mates status credits from EK have disappeared as well??

Sorry and embarrassed to say we had a typo - someone mistakenly added the three words "and status credits" where they should not have been. Yet. As noted earlier status recognition/lounge access with a network of international airlines is a very high priority for JB and discussions are in progress.

The typo lasted about 3 days. If any members alert us that they made bookings on these airlines based on this mistake we will work out how to make amends. Apologies again for the false start.
