Giftcards and EDR Points

I purchased $500 worth of Wish gift cards today from RACV with intention to spend it at Masters (Putting in new kitchen cabinetry)

On the way back to the car I went past woolies and thought i'd try my luck and see if I could purchase a $500 Masters gift card with my Wish giftcards and earn EDR QFF points.

The checkout person said I wouldn't be able to pay for gift cards using wish cards, I insisted on giving it a go anyway, and it worked, however on inspection of my receipt it appeared that no QFF points were earned

I wonder however if this is because Masters is part of the woolies group? or more specifically because it's one of those cards that are 'loaded' with a set amount, rather than the pre denominated types ($20/$50/$100)

Anyone had any other experiences where they were able to earn QFF points purchasing gift cards? I imagine a lot of the more utility type gift cards (e.g. itunes/skype/red balloon) would earn points, but how about ones for stores like myer & david jones? Are there any 'rules of thumb' for which cards earn and which do not?

For a week late last year I was getting points for Wish cards, but normally any woolworths gift card purchase does not get EDR points, other cards do like Myer, but they often wont count for the bonii promos.

I started thinking this the other week AFTER i had used wish cards to purchase a TV at dick smiths. Suddenly thought to myself that I could've wash it through EDR to earn an extra few hundred QFF points and subsequently kicked myself.

Later this month, i'll be purchasing a ipad (likely from myer) will attempt the exercise of wish cards (5% off) -> Myer cards at WW (QFF?) -> Ipad (price matching whoever is cheapest at the time) for myer one points. I'll let everyone know if that becomes successful.

Yes, it definitely works. My partner bought a Kathmandu one this week to use in their sale too and got points. It's only if the card is part of the WOW group that you won't get points, AFAIK.

Just to update the thread on my experiment.

Buying a ipad for a birthday present for the missus, myer stocks it for $598, target has it for $559.

Called up myer to check if they had stock, tick 1 left.
Asked them to price match target, tick $559 ($39 saving)
Went to RACV to buy 5x $100 wish cards for $475. (Earned 712 citi reward points & $25 saving)
Went to safeway to purchase 5 x $100 myer gift cards with said wish cards. (Earned 470 QFF points on my EDR)
Went to myer to purchase said iPad with my $500 worth of myer gift cards, plus $30 worth of myer rewards vouchers i had laying around, plus $29 on my amex. (1,138 Myer points, 29 MR points)

Later in June I will TRS it for a further $51 saving.

In summary, bought the iPad and earned : 712 citi rewards, 470 QFF, 1138 Myer one, 29 MR, and a total savings of $115 off the sticker price.

I did get a few strange looks when I was in woolies, namely because I was at the self check out counter next to the queue, and the terminal was playing up and needed intervention from the attendant to process each and every wish card. Also I walked out of the shop holding a stack of (now depleted) wish gift cards and a equisized stack of myer gift cards.

The only further optmisations I can think of to what i've done would be to order the wish cards online as they allow amex, but require further forward planning, and also to make my woolies purchase during a double or triple points offer (which i didn't have)

Also dick smiths currently have a deal on said ipad for $547, but myer wouldn't match it as none of the local DS's had stock.

I believe that you earn EDR points when buying gift cards from Woolies as long as they aren't Woolworth Group cards. So you could buy and earn Myer, for example, and earn points but not a Wish Gift card.

The following are exclusions from the qualifying spend in respect of the different stores:

All I know is that my partner went in to Woolworth's last Saturday and bought just 1 item, a Myer gift card. The receipt, at least, showed that she had earned points for the $$ above $30 but I don't know whether her account did. She has done the same before for a Kathmandu card.

Edit: I can now confirm that her account showed the points.

You earn EDR points when you spend with WoW. Buying a Woolworths group gift card is not spending, it is 'banking'.
You earn points when using a Woolworths group gift card, not when getting one.

That post outlined the situation rather well.

A gift card for outside the Woolworths group is a product. You cannot spend that card at woolworths and thereby earn edr points. Exactly as they said you earn edr points for buying gift cards that are redeemed outside the woolworths group. That is not a loophole.

The wish gift card is just one of a range of woolworths gift cards. Hence why it says gift cards. It should be obvious that you can't earn EDR points for buying a WW gift card and then earn EDR points for spending that card. That would be a loophole. But It is pretty obvious that condition applies to WW gift cards. And so there is no loophole.
