I am wondering if someone can tell me how to earn miles for my A A Advantage account other than buying miles when bonus offers arise (which is the way I've been doing it for the last few years)

I use a citibank Signature card and an ANZ qantas ff card at the moment.

As its not possible for me to open a card in the USA I am wondering if I am missing something

Thank you in advance

Re: American Airlines Advantage

I was going to report this method shortly as have just proven it works:

$15 for 2000 American Airlines Miles ($0.0075 per mile) - View from the Wing

For USD$15 you get 2000 miles - you have to signup for a trial that is of no use to you as the app is geo locked to the US ITunes store, wait until you get charged for the premium service and then 30 days later I got the miles. I cancelled my subscription before the second charge went through and still got the miles. Just doing it for my wife now.

Also I earn a huge number of miles by using Kaligo.com which is an accommodation booking service that lets you earn AA miles and other programs as well. Also signup for a free account with Rocket Miles as they have some good bonus offers from time to time.

Re: American Airlines Advantage

thanks Dale- great tips, although i'm looking for something more regular- where I can earn miles on a regular and larger basis such as I do with my QFF credit cards.

Re: American Airlines Advantage

I forgot the basic advice first.

If you can get a direct issued Amex card then you can transfer their MRR points to SPG and then onto Aadvantage - 40000 Amex points earns 20000 SPG points which gives you 25000 AA miles and they have bonuses on transfers every now and then.

Or if you can get a Diners Club card and pay the extra fee to get the accompanying MasterCard then you can earn Diners reward points which again transfer to SPG and then onto AA miles. If you have the income to get it, there is also currently an Amex Platinum giving you 120000 free points for signing up with lots of other benefits. See this thread:

I have a direct issued Amex but can't get the Diners just yet - I tried in vain.

Re: American Airlines Advantage

Amex to SPG to AA

Best to do in 40K lots, 40KMR = 20K SPG = 25K AA

At that rate its marginal to me but there are occasional bonuses that make it worthwhile.

Yes, appears we were writing at the same time!

Hi Dale - I failed the zip code test for this one...

Re: American Airlines Advantage

My zipcode works - 7050 and put an additional 0 on it to become 07050 and it accepted that so maybe use that. Always try the extra 0 for us Aussies - I have had to do that on many payments, even outside the FF niche.

Re: American Airlines Advantage

Thanks Dale, have had no problems with that on my AA account, but have tried both options of a zero front and back with no luck, so eventually chose the zip for DC, where I lived for a few years, and that got thru OK. However I only have a debit card card and have now been declined on those grounds so I think I will have to pass. Thanks for the heads up.

Croupier- it's not accepting my details.
Try a different credit card and add a zero in front of your post code.
It didn't work on my ANZ Amex but worked on my regular Amex.
Whenever I hire a car I also use the links from AA usually score 500 miles doing that.
I tried buying stuff from eBay USA from Aussie sellers but didn't get any points credited but have had success shopping through Sierra Trading Post.

brilliant idea Croupier, but no luck for me. I've tried three different credit cards but the website is obviously picking up that these are not credit card valid for this offer. and, I have a family's address in Los Angeles which I could use, but just won't accept my credit cards

Wonder whether a Qantas Cash Card would work? I was able to get around the zip code but then failed the course as I only use a debit card.

I don't think it's anything to do with the Zip Code- that's an easy one. they state the offer is valid for USA only- and their website obviously detects our credit cards are not US cards.
I don't have an Amex any longer, only an Amex attached to my ANZ QFF card.

Guess you would be right maze, wonder what card dale has been able to successfully use?

I used a direct issued Amex and a .com email address in case that matters. I didn't even have to use a VPN which is sometimes required.

Sorry they have been pains with the credit cards.
