Its a two weeks out before I travel QF11 to LAX, and I will check-in online, obviously i expect FF members will have the best seats allocated, but from your experiences what are some of the best seats I should try and book on the A380. I am travelling with someone and hoping to get some shut eye on the trip.

Look forward to your recommendations

I flew in J on the A380 last year was was in a window seat half way down and it was fine. The only thing i have heard was the seats near the galley and toilets can get noisy.

This may help:

Most seats in J are good. Prefer 11 A or K, and a blocked out spare. Closer to front better, meals earlier and off first

As a solo traveller, ‘mini’-cabin of three rows at the front is best, and the centre seats (as it’s 2x2x2, each centre has aisle access).
Best are 12EF, one row back from the front (this is a view shared by many on this site). Front rows get a bit of light from the crew’s workstation (11B/E) or noise from any activity in the lounge area (11F/J). Row 13 seems fine, but is close to galleys/dunnies.
Meals come first to to min-cabin, you're close to first off through the door behind row.
Flown it several times, and it’s all good!

Totally agree. 12E is a perfect J seat :)

I reckon I'd agree with you, word for word!!

Sat in 12E SYD-SIN earlier this month, would sit there again in a flash for the reasons listed above.

I guess next question is, what are my chances in securing these suggested seats in online check-in?

Depends on the load, but check early and often. Status helps of course, I was able to choose 12E as soon as I obtained WP level.

Are you QFF Silver or above? If so, you can select your seat now online Advance Seat Selection on Qantas flights

Priority for seating is based on status from CL down through WP, SG etc. Not quite sure how restrictive it is for International - as SG I was able to select 12E months before the flight.

If you can't select online, try calling your Travel Agent or Qantas phone sales, and see what they can do. I've had them allocate great seats before on a 744 that weren't available online.

I have no status, Bronze FF, havent travelled for a while, I do however plan to this year.

Dont think I succeeded to well on my mission!

Called reservations

For my flight Feb 2Syd>LAX QF11 Seats 21J,21K
Feb 19 LAX>Syd QF12 25J,25K The reservations operator advised these were the last two seats together on the flight, hard to believe!

Thought there must of been some other way or method of getting something a bit better, online check-in begins tomorrow, whats the point of it, if there is nothing left? Or maybe this is it for no status =( I wish there were another way!

It's possible some forward seats are blocked out for higher status FF's - they are usually "released" 80 hours prior to the flight, but then would still only be available for Silver or above to select online, but that would usually also mean that Telephone Sales could select them as well. Check in online right on 24 hours before and hope for the best ... and keep checking back regularly to see if anything changes. You never know your luck.

But worst case scenario, there is no such thing as a BAD skybed, there are just some that have a few more advantages!

!

Not really, I recall the seat permutations for my recent SYD-SIN flight and there were rarely adjacent seats.

Previously as a SG I could only go far forward as Row 17. My girlfiend, then a NB, could only go as close as Row 19. When we obtained WP status, all seats opened up.

Last year on our Flight Melbourne to Singapore my husband and I were allocated 25J &K
Originally allocated 18A & B on 747 and thinking I didn't want to sit near toilets etc elected to change to downstairs 25J & K. Prior to our flight 747 was changed to A380
and were given the same seat numbers. Last row in Business Class but we found them fabulous. No noise from premium economy cabin and we actually received quite a bit of extra attention from the purser. Our flight lacked for nothing, probably one of the best flights we have ever had and the point where Qantas became my preferred airline.:o:o
