I am working night-shift Christmas eve and night and I am not able to get to the family 'do' during the day.

So in true AFF tradition I am thinking of a day trip to while away the day. I can't leave MEL until 1000 and need to be back by 1630 so I can get to work. A nice lounge in the middle for lunch to top it off would be nice. Any suggestions?

It it 10 from the airport or leaving the city?

A quick run to Syd and then get JQ1 back to Melbourne at 13.00 which leaves form the international terminal means a F lounge run, but the time could be tight if you can't leave Mel before 10.

I was working on 10am from the airport, so JQ1 is a possibility. I like the idea of a Flounge run even though I would have to go easy on the alcohol.

i did look at AKL but the flight times didn't fit my schedule.

Funny was thinking the same thing, a quick trip Christmas Day. My thought was Canberra, J flight on the way back, so I could use the business lounge, so large, and I imagine peaceful.

To do JQ1 you'd want to arrive in Sydney by 10am. At least to enjoy the lounge a bit.

If I end up going to the nation's capital for Xmas, I would be happy to guest you.

That is only thing that is holding me back. I would only have about 90 minutes.

Surely 90 minutes in the SYD F lounge beats a longer period in the CBR J lounge??

Much less than that with a 10am departure from MEL.

With that, the earliest arrival to the FL would be ~12pm - with an on time JQ flight commencing boarding 20 minutes later.

I don't think I can make a Flounge run work. And unfortunately the lack of flights into CBR on the 25th rules that out too. It might just have to be 3 1/2 hours in the SYD dom J lounge.

You might see me passing through the SYD J lounge then if it's mid-afternoon on Christmas Day... a pleasant place although doesn't quite scale the heights of the Flounge ;)

After some deliberation I have made a decision. One of my works mates is doing something even crazier than flying to SYD (say), so I am joining him for lunch. We will be leaving the vicinity of MEL at 0830 and then driving to Taralgon (about 2 1/2 hours) having lunch and then driving back.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and whatever you do this Tuesday, I hope it is an enjoyable, happy, and safe day.

Your driving to Traralgon for Xmas, that is different (having gone to school in Traralgon I feel qualified to say that :) ).

I guess that is no sillier than driving to MEL and back in one day which is what we sometimes do :!:

We will be driving Sale - Moe - Sale on Christmas Day so we'll wave as we pass you.
