My 15 year old son is flying to the US soon and has a 6 hour stop over at DFW. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a pay-as-you-go lounge he could go into while waiting. I know they have this type of thing at LAX where it's $25 for entry and gives you a quiet place to stay. He is flying Qantas and has silver status but has used any free lounge passes.

Any information appreciated.

AFAIK DFW doesn't have a QF lounge, so any free passes wouldn't be redeemable anyway.

I'm guessing at 15 he does not have a AMEX card but on the off chance.

AMEX run their own lounge in Dallas and Vegas called the Centurion Lounge.

Failing lounge access, DFW is a pretty big airport to while away 6hrs, catch the trains around to the various terminals, wander the shops and restaurants, there is great Free Wifi throughout the airport - and plenty of (US) power outlets if you need it.

Been to Dallas twice already this month with another visit on Saturday....No need for a lounge as heaps of shops, plentiful food outlets and free and quick wifi especially terminal D which will be the arriving terminal....As you have to clear immigration and customs the layover might not be 6 hours....In any event no need for a lounge/

Are there issues with a 15yo and lounge access? I would imagine any us based lounge with a self serve bar won't let him in if he's under 21 and unaccompanied?

I agree, I don't think he will be allowed access. Not allowed in AU if under 18 so no way a 15yr old will get in unaccompanied in the US.

I can remember the threads on here about that topic, and it playing out. I would be interested to see if the US was the same.

It's 21 in general for the USA ... it is unlikely that access would be available if they noticed the age.

(I know a couple of [then] 19 yo who aged a couple of years on visiting.)

Thanks everyone. My main thought of getting him in a lounge was from a safety factor - a destination rather than trolling the airport. He will be with another boy the same age so I'm sure they will want to walk around but I take the point they may not be allowed access. Thankfully he is an experienced traveller. May speak with the TA.

thanks again

DFW is a busy airport, people moving about everywhere, and heavily secured by police (including them scooting around on Segues) and of course military presence also. On top of that given the strict security requirements to get anywhere near a US airport, DFW is a fairly safe place to be - if thats any extra assurance.

There is a Qantas International Lounge near D21. Although he is unable to go into the Qantas Lounge, which is on an upper floor, on the ground floor is a small visitors lounge that he could use. Just couches and a quiet area.
