Hey guys, first lurker post here ;)

Soon I will be making a trip from KUL to ADL next month.

I had considered flying MH but given the late timing of my booking, most their flights in the next month are either completely full or ridiculously overpriced (I mean like mehh, how can a 4*772 service to ADL of all places be so full). Same with SQ.

So long story short I had to look at a few other alternatives, namely JQ and D7.

In my infinite wisdom my arrangements became a Air Asia X to Perth arriving at 0520 and a 0745 DJ to ADL and congratulated myself for saving $900 (300 per PAX)

Looking back I want to slap myself stupid for that, firstly I should have flown via MEL for the greater option of transferring flights to ADL (DJ only has 2 per day). Secondly I should stop being such a scrooge and just flown MH or SQ.

Regardless I'm now worried.
0520 arrival into PER on a LCC into terminal 1 and a 0745 departure at terminal 3.

1. Do you think I can make it if the plane is on time?
2. How efficient are transfers in PER and what other alternatives do I have? I checked the shuttle timetable and it's like one every 50 minutes...
3. I have insurance on both legs of the flight as well as AMEX cover. What am I covered for if I miss the DJ flight?
4. Anyone have any experience with Air Asia X punctuality?

Anyways thanks for all your help guys. Cheers.

The actual new road between the 2 terminals takes about 10 minutes so you could do a taxi if all else goes pear shaped.
Think 15 minutes tops.

Ahh thats awesome news. :)
Booked under the impression that terminals were right next to each other, then when I looked on the map afterwards it looked like a horrific journey.

Also, anyone got any experiences with early morning PER international formalities. Never been through there, how are customs and immigration queues and such?

I took the AirAsia flight from PER to KUL a couple of times, and it departed pretty much on time, so I'm assuming it arrives at PER on time too.

You've got roughly 2.5 hours to transfer, and you only need to check in/bag drop 30 minutes (minimum!) for your domestic DJ flight, so chances are you should be fine.

I can confirm the information provided thusfar as being correct for the shuttle, and you should have no problems making your next flight.

By the looks of things, you'll be on the 0620hrs shuttle, which should get you to Domestic by ~0630hrs, which gives you more than enough time for your DJ flight.

If there's a big queue of people waiting for the Terminal Transfer bus before 0630hrs, I'd suggest calling the operator's (Carbridge) customer contact number (0410 636 418) to see if they might put on an extra service.

Latest you can check-in on DJ is T-30.

The new landside inter-terminal road makes things a whole lot faster for terminal transfers, as they're able to do road speeds, and not the limited speed airside vehicles are restricted to.

Punctuality-wise, I've had to take a guess at what flight you're on, which looks like D7 2714. Flightstats reports from data of 56 flights, 89% ontime with average 36min delay. Worst ever delay is 343min, and std. deviation is 83min.

Can't answer the Amex insurance policy question - anyone current on these which could chime in?

I arrived in PER ~1:00am a couple of weeks ago. Got through duty free, immigration, collected and quarantine in ~46 minutes.

Shuttle between terminals was waiting outside. Totally unexpected as last time I was here the shuttle would cease operations for the night and start again sometime in the morning. Complimentary for QF->QF connections and I think $10 for all others.

I got a taxionce a few years ago ~4:00am and from memory it cost $25-$30 and took about 20 minutes. I guess the new raod makes it quicker but is the taxi cheaper?

The AirAsia flight usually arrives with no other flights scheduled nearby, unless the 4am DPS flight is running late (barring volcanoes!). I have done AirAsia KUL-PER without checked luggage and it was maybe 25 mins from touchdown til I was in the carpark... Coming from Malaysia/Sing into Perth often Quarantine is the big holdup, the food some people bring back is amazing, and usually hidden in one of 6 suitcases. This applies more in the afternoon when the MH, SQ and QF flights all arrive around the same time.

To improve your chances of being fast away even more, maybe sign up for the AirAsia premium upgrade lottery with optiontown.com? For a $3 signup fee and $72 cost (refunded if you don't get the upgrade) you would get flatbed, priority luggage (allegedly) and you'd be at the front of plane making you the head of the immigration/customs/quarantine queue.

Cheers for all your help guys!

And I know exactly how sneaky all the asians think they are when they try to pass through customs. So pathetic at times it's funny.

Hopefully they won't hold me up too much ;)
