Quick Way To Get 5,000 QFF Points?

Hi Guys

Long time listener, first time caller. I am travelling from MEL-SYD in a few weeks and was hoping to score an upgrade. I am just under 5,000 points short, does anyone know and good and quick ways of getting 5,000 points, I am willing to pay but I think QF don't allow such small top ups.

Any help would be great appreciated.

I always thought that points purchased had to be redeemed for an award on the spot. "Points may only be purchased with a specific Award in mind"

What's wrong with an upgrade award? It's still an award if you pay with points

Does this mean they only sell you the points if the upgrade award can be confirmed at time of purchase? If you can just buy points whenever you want I don't understand the obsession with "Points may only be purchased with a specific Award in mind".

I might be wrong but the way I read it is that if you've got your ticket and would like to upgrade it to the next class but are lacking points, you can ring and buy what you need. It does not actual say it has to be a Classic Award does it?
It wouldn't work for the Sydney-Melbourne flight though as 5000 is more that 15% of the upgrade value

I don't know either. Last year I needed 2000 points to put an upgrade request for SCL-SYD and the wording made me think that they wouldn't sell them to me. I didn't call to inquire though as I was in a remote corner of Brazil without mobile network coverage...:shock:

But in the end 20,000 HHonors points did the trick

No, no family members, and also Qantas only allow you to buy 15% of the max amount needed for the award, my upgrade is only 5,000 so they cannot do it.

I applied late on the 4th, approved on the 5th, cards arrived within a week, purchase made on the 12th, 20,000 bonus points appeared on the 19th.

Of course, YMMV.

When is your flight? If it's in a week or two Colin 2905's suggestion is on the money.

The other forms of points transfer you refer to are against QF T&C's. I'm almost certain that soliciting for such purchases on AFF is against the forum rules.

This is correct, as the 3rd point of the community rules attests.

That offer for the NAB Qantas Rewards Card looks excellent... wish I had an income!

Other than the gift card offer (which would have taken several weeks longer than the flight is away), there was a business class sale on, such that a ticket flat our purchased in J may have been cheaper than buying a gift voucher if you absolutely needed to be in J.

I can't think of quick ways to earn QFF points other than a "family" member transferring them to you.

Not sure I understand why you want use 10,000 QFF points to upgrade such a short flight when the outright cost for a business class award is 16,000 QFF points plus a few dollars.

If time until flight is sufficient and you intend to fly Q again in the next year then taking advantage of buying Q vouchers means you get the points to use (if time) now and still have $ value of vouchers to use in future. For 5,000 points you'd need to buy $500 worth of vouchers. But it does seem an expensive use of 10K points. Suggest read up of 'points' threads and plan for the future.

May be faster than applying for a new CC.

Hotel cards like Accor allow points to be transferred to QFF.

Have you you got any of those?
