TomVexille and I need to be in Chicago later next year for a wedding and we're open to suggestions on how to get there. The only real requirement is that it is in J or F, using points where possible. Between us we currently have approximately 300k QFF points and similar VFF points. Also happy to purchase AA miles.
Ideas/thoughts/suggestions?

Redeem the VA miles on HA to HNL, then use the QF miles for AA HNL to ORD. Have a few days on the beach in either direction.

How about making it a RTW trip? Redeem QF points for EK MEL-xDXB-ORD (128K points each in J one-way), then return home via LAX using VA points?

Would you belive I uttered the sentence "I dont need to do EK F, I dont like Dom that much" over the weekend?:mrgreen:
We have done EK J before....I dont mind the idea but we are hoping to try a few new airlines/cabins.

CX MEL-HKG-ORD for 278K is probably the best use of QF points. Can't think of better J cabin all the way.
QR A350/A380 J is great but DOH-ORD is on B777.
EK J is average. Not enough incentive to fly 14+14.

Others can give better advise to use your VA points.

We have been contemplating QR out of ADL....

Yea but you are doing 14+14 and the other half of the journey is on B777 with outdated J cabin, although flying as couple makes 2-2-2 config more desirable.

If going for QR why not on the A380 ex SYD?
Same J cabin as A350 with addition of onboard bar that serves Krug ;)

You can do the A350 the whole way if you go ADL-DOH-BOS. I wouldnt mind a night or two in BOS anyway.

CX via HKG? VA and try the new 777 J seating?

I think you might need to provide more guidance as to what other requirements there are!

I think at this point just any suggestion, as there might be one we hadnt thought of. Id love to try the new VA seat, and EY F. I guess maximum experience for the points we have.

I found QR J on the 777 as a couple brilliant. The space is just amazing. 3 windows and nice an open. Yes very different to the angled reverse herringbone, but I wouldn't call it out of date (still waaaay above EK 777). The big plus for QR is the soft product which is as close to first class as you will get in Business.

Wouldn't the best use of QF points be a 280k J One world award? Then you could try QR and CX and QF and any others you wanted.....

35,000 mile limit, 5 stopovers in Europe, USA or wheverever... 16 flight leg limit, including ground legs....

VA points on EY F would be nice though....

Problem is we have 300k QF points, and there are two of us....

Data point. I'm open to essentially most major US cities as a gateway in both directions and we can make our own way to Chicago once stateside.

I've done NRT-ORD on JL and ORD-NRT on NH over the past month, albeit in F. Both magnificent.
