Tell me where to stick my iPad

Hi,

I like to watch movies on my iPad, but can't find the perfect place to put it.

I usually travel in seat 3A on a QF 737. If I put my iPad on the meal tray, it's too low and close to me. If I stuff something in the seat pocket in front, I can balance the iPad there until the occupant of seat 2A reclines or otherwise thumps their seat, pushing my iPad off and tumbling onto my knees.

Ideally I would like to mount the iPad right behind the head of the person in 2A.

Has anyone developed a successful method of holding it there? Velcro? Elastic? Bit of string? I was thinking of a hook over the top of the seat, but think that the occupant of seat 2A would quite rightly object to something like that being so close to their head.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Russ

Put it in your checked baggage and hope someone steals it, then you can claim on your insurance and buy a proper laptop.

Why would you want to do that? You could only then watch movies for around 90 minutes :P

(And insurance would replace it with another iPad. It's like for like not like for inferior ;))

I tend to just hold my laptop. Occasionally, i'll find something to prop it up on the tray table (to hold it up against the seat in front).

On long haul, I try to be as tired as possible and take night flights to get some shut eye. Seems to work best, but i don't mind holding the iPad.

Or sell your watch and buy a "proper" laptop? Why would you get rid of one thing to buy something completely different?

An iPad is not a laptop.

Back OT. I use mine with the apple stand and it tends to work. I also use bluetooth headphones so I dont have the cables draping everywhere...

Shame a mountek solution only works with iPhones and iPods...

Thanks. Last night I tried a loop of heavy duty elastic and it worked well. I looped it over the top of the seat in front (between the moving headrest and the seat) and hung the ipad from it. Viola! My iPad was right at eye level the entire flight!

My Belkin case has an elastic strap about 20mm wide that holds the flap closed when not in use. This with a little creativity will "lock" behind the tray table in QF and JQ Y, and perfectly on the IFE screens on DJ, in saying that however, I am usually playing a game so the iPads in hand. In J, usually games or watching the IFE

You can see the strap in this image

No comment from the pax in front?

Something like this..

iPad gee no good for travelling battery only lasts 11 hours!, does email and web, super sharp screen, nice and thin, weight 900gms :)

I use THIS with mine. Its beautifully made.

How heavy does that make the iPad overall? Do you get pinged at airports to treat it like a laptop?

This might be a good solution for when I am travelling on longer trips...

Adds about 400gms to it. Not tried it with this new case via airport scanner yet, this super aluminium Zagg cover/keyboard was only released in the US a week ago.

This one on sale today.

I have the Apple cover for mine and have wedged it inbetween the headrest and rear support on the seat infront of me, not sure if my description is quite accurate. But it seems to rest really well there. That's only on the millennium seats though.

Love the title ... do you really want me to?

I see Zazz has sold out of that item. This must be an issue.

(I think I posted some time ago about seeing an Ipad cart-wheeling up the aisle of a train )

Is 3A not in J? If in Millennium seats, I just put the back of the Apple case into the upper seat pocket and let the iPad hang down - perfect placement. Of course, you can't do that in the new Recaro seating, but I don't really have an issue holding it or putting it on the tray table.

I was waiting for serfty to be baited by that headline. Now we just need to page Mal to the thread. ;)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

djfuzz, Yes, it's in J, but hanging it on the pocket means I am constantly looking down. I'd prefer to look straight ahead so I don't get a sore neck after 4 hours :(

No comment because the elastic is between their headrest and the seat frame.

Here it is in situ:
