Have read other threads and am seeing conflicting info (maybe just in my head!) - so apolgies if this has been done before.
Due to a mix of redemtions and paid tcikets, we have two booking no's for 4 of us from BNE to SIN on QF51 , then we have a further Jetstar booking for the four of us to coughet the next morning. We are booked to stay at Transit Hotel and know their proceedure - let bags go to unclaimed - get them next moring and recheck etc.
Then I had a glimer of hope that we could interline or through check - via some posts i read here. I asked Qantas via email and they said no way but finished the email with .............It appears however that you have booked these flights separately so unfortunately we will be unable to offer through check-in. You will also need to advise the airport on departure of your connecting flight.
The undelining is mine - if its no go - why are they telling me to do that ? are they nosey or is there a chance they will through book at the BNE QF counter ? Does anyone know how I can beat this ? Be a whole bunch simplier to just go to transit pub and know bags save etc

There is a chance yes. But there is also a chance no. It helps if at least one of you is WP. It also helps if you get a check-in agent who's having a good day. Smiling helps too. ALSO, stress that this is something you have done before and you're willing to take responsibility of your bags should something go wrong. Of course, doing so means that you must take responsibility for your bags if something goes wrong. Do call Qantas and let them know about your connecting flight, and do ask at check-in. And do hope for the best. At worst, it's not too hard to deal with the issue once you're at SIN.
