To earn status with Singapore Airlines, you normally need to earn Elite Miles from flying. But until 4 June 2024, Singapore Airlines is offering ways to earn Elite Miles on the ground with its shopping partners. This could make it easier for you to earn KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold status.
During this promotion, you can earn Elite Miles for every dollar you spend with Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago (up to certain limits). These non-flying Elite Miles can count towards upgrading to a higher KrisFlyer status or renewing your current tier. PPS Club members can also earn PPS Value towards renewing PPS status with this offer.
KrisShop is Singapore Airlines’ online store and Pelago is a platform for booking activities.
Kris+ is an App that lets you earn KrisPay points when shopping with retail partners on the ground. (You can transfer your KrisPay points to KrisFlyer miles at a 1:1 rate.)
Kris+ recently launched in Sydney and Melbourne, allowing you to earn points with hundreds of retailers in Sydney and Melbourne. You can also access discounts and special offers with some partners, including many restaurants and boutique stores.
These are the maximum amounts of PPS Value or Elite miles that you can earn from this promotion, depending on your current KrisFlyer status tier:
See the Singapore Airlines website for details.
To reach KrisFlyer Elite Silver status, you would need to earn at least 25,000 Elite miles within 12 months. Gold status requires you to earn 50,000 Elite miles within a year.
Other shortcuts to Singapore Airlines status
Admittedly, KrisFlyer’s current promotion will only help you bridge a shortfall in Elite miles. You’d still need to earn most of what you need from flying with Singapore Airlines or Star Alliance partners.
But there are also a couple of other shortcuts to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer elite status that don’t require you to earn any Elite miles!
One option is to apply for the HSBC Star Alliance credit card. By getting this card and spending at least $4,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days, you’ll automatically be eligible for Star Alliance Gold status for a year. You can choose to claim this as KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, or an equivalent tier with six other Star Alliance member carriers. You can then continue to renew your Star Alliance Gold status by spending at least $60,000 per year on your credit card.

If you already have status with a different airline, another option could be to apply for a Singapore Airlines status match. Singapore Airlines doesn’t give these out like candy. But it may consider requests, on a case-by-case basis, from KrisFlyer members who are genuine frequent flyers and have upcoming flights booked with Singapore Airlines.
