Etihad Business Sale: Kuala Lumpur to Europe from $2,056 Return!

Etihad Airways has launched a great sale on round-trip Business Class fares from Malaysia to Europe.

For just over AU$2,000, you could fly Etihad Airways Business Class from Kuala Lumpur to either Paris or Zurich, via Abu Dhabi. Etihad generally operates Boeing 787s with lie-flat Business seats on these routes.

Even if you live in Australia, and not Malaysia, you can still take advantage of this fare by “nesting” return flights from Malaysia to Europe in between another return ticket from Australia to Malaysia.

You would need to stop over in Kuala Lumpur in both directions and allow some extra time in case one of the inbound flights is delayed, as you would be travelling on separate tickets. But by splitting up your trip, you could save thousands of dollars! By comparison, Etihad normally charges over $11,000 for a return Business Class ticket all the way from Sydney or Melbourne to Paris.

Malaysia reopened its border for quarantine-free travel on 1 April 2022.

To get from Australia to Malaysia, you could simply buy a separate ticket on an airline of your choice. Alternatively, you could redeem frequent flyer points.

Qantas Frequent Flyer points can be redeemed for Classic Rewards on Malaysia Airlines, which flies non-stop from Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur. Alternatively, you could redeem Velocity points for Singapore Airlines reward seats in Economy or Business Class. If you’re planning to do this, you should first check award availability though as it could be very limited during peak times such as school holidays.

About the Etihad Airways fare

With this Etihad Airways airfare from Kuala Lumpur to Europe, you could travel any time from 25 April until 30 November 2022. You would need to book by 29 April 2022.

There is a minimum stay required at the destination of 3 days, and the maximum stay is 6 months. Optional free stopovers are allowed in Abu Dhabi in one or both directions for up to 21 days.

The cheapest fare we could find would be flying into Paris, then returning from Zurich. This would cost MYR6,425 (~AU$2,056). Note that you would be paying in Malaysian ringgits as the booking originates in Malaysia.

Earn Velocity points & status credits

As Etihad Airways is a partner of Virgin Australia, you can also earn Velocity points and status credits with this “Z” class fare at the Business Class rate!

You would earn 480 Velocity status credits and around 17,482 Velocity points for a round-trip Business Class fare from Kuala Lumpur to Paris via Abu Dhabi on Etihad.

You could alternatively credit these flights to another frequent flyer program such as Etihad Guest, Air Canada Aeroplan, American Airlines AAdvantage or ANA Mileage Club.

I think for the price that the Oman Air sale ex KUL - if it’s still live - would be the better choice of carrier. Etihad is good, but their hub at AUH really lets them down.

Maybe… similar prices but a few nuances. The Oman biz suite is much better than Etihad‘s product and the ground experience better too. I haven’t checked frequency or transit times, but people might also highly value the ability to credit to a local airline. To each their own.

Personally I wouldn’t fly to or out of KUL, but that’s just me.

I don’t mind KUL to transit through.
Agree that the WY product is a fair bit nicer but as you said if you want to be able to credit it to VA then it makes sense

Interesting commentary on the FT thread. Makes this fare a lot more attractive.

“works for ZRH as well. It makes it even more interesting with the existing Commercial Waiver for COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) with EY (https://www.etihadhub.com/en-ae/news...r-covid-19-v21). Meaning you can change date and departure as the arrival airport for free. So somebody looking for BKK-ZRH-BKK or any other departure airport from the same region as (HKG, SEL, NRT, NGO MNL, BKK, HKT).”

Looks like there’s also some options in/out of AMS for a little bit more with reasonably good connections.
