Fiji Airways has officially joined the Oneworld alliance as a full member as of 1 April 2025. This makes Fiji Airways the 14th airline in the Oneworld alliance, with Oman Air set to join later this year.

Oneworld member airlines: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines.

Fiji Airways had been the sole Oneworld Connect airline since 2018.

This unlocks improved elite status perks for Oneworld frequent flyers, including Qantas status holders flying Fiji Airways. You can also now redeem points with any Oneworld airline’s frequent flyer program for Fiji Airways flights.

What full Oneworld membership means for Fiji Airways

Fiji Airways’ upgrade to full membership in Oneworld unlocks a more consistent suite of benefits for partner status holders.

While Fiji Airways has long had a close relationship with Qantas (which owns 16% of the airline), the benefits of Oneworld Connect were often confusing. Previously, some Oneworld benefits would apply but others would not. And some benefits, like lounge access, would only be for members of certain Oneworld airline programs but not others.

Now, that changes. Full oneworld membership means that all Oneworld status members – regardless of which airline issued their status – receive consistent, alliance-wide benefits when flying with Fiji Airways.

This includes access to Business Class lounges, priority check-in and boarding, additional baggage allowance, and fast-track security where available. More broadly, it could also bring an uptick in tourism to the island nation.

Fiji Airways CEO Andre Viljoen said the upgrade to full membership “reflects our commitment to offering world-class service and connectivity to our customers”.

Fiji Airways joins AAdvantage

From 1 April 2025, Fiji Airways has also adopted American Airlines’ AAdvantage program as its new loyalty scheme. This is partly to fulfil the requirements of joining Oneworld, which needs the airline to use a program with at least three status tiers and redeemable points or miles.

Chilean low-cost carrier JetSmart also uses the AAdvantage program.

Passengers flying with Fiji Airways can now earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points, the metric AAdvantage uses to track progress towards elite status. However, this also means redemptions on Fiji Airways using AAdvantage miles are now subject to dynamic pricing.

Elite members of AAdvantage will enjoy the full suite of benefits when flying on Fiji Airways. There’s no differentiation between American Airlines AAdvantage and Fiji Airways AAdvantage status. Unfortunately, this also includes the lack of lounge access when flying domestically in the USA on American and Alaska Airlines.

Qantas Frequent Flyer will probably remain the primary program for most Australians flying Fiji Airways, as you can still earn Qantas points and status credits. However, those with AAdvantage status or who value its partner award pricing may find AAdvantage an attractive alternative to credit Fiji Airways flights to.

Fiji Airways is discontinuing its previous Tabua Club loyalty program.

You can now use Fiji Airways for Oneworld Classic Flight Rewards

Qantas Frequent Flyer members have long been able to use points to book Fiji Airways flights, thanks to the airline’s close partnership with Qantas.

You can also now include Fiji Airways flights on Oneworld Classic Flight Rewards. This opens up new routing possibilities for Qantas Frequent Flyer members, particularly when travelling via Fiji to Asia or North America.

This is great news for members who are looking to book round-the-world tickets, especially given the lack of award availability on Qantas to North America.

You can now use Fiji Airways flights as part of other Oneworld multi-city awards as well, such as Cathay Pacific’s Oneworld multi-carrier awards. Fiji Airways will also become available to use on Oneworld Explorer round-the-world tickets.
