One member this week gets a crash course in the best ways to redeem frequent flyer points. This member has enough toasters and Woolworths gift vouchers and instead wants to get the best bang for their points on flight redemptions.

Our trusty members are quick to rally and provide some invaluable hints, tips and tricks on the best way to maximise the value of points.

A word of warning is sounded and our members advise that international economy ticket redemption often attracts additional surcharges and is often not great points value.

Purchasing a full point’s first-class fare can be an economically sound use of points but again these fares are also usually reserved for high status members.

One member has found that in recent years redemption of points on domestic fares has proven to be good value. The availability of flights is also generally greater and there is more flexibility in travel times.
